John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports former NFL CB Darrell Green has been elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2008.

NFL | Green is HOF finalist

The Associated Press reports former Washington Redskins CB Darrell Green is a 2008 Hall of Fame finalist. Green holds the record for consecutive seasons with an interception (19), and had 54 INTs for 621 yards and six TDs. He is a member of the 1990s All-Decade team and appeared in seven Pro Bowls.

Former NFL WR Cris Carter and former Washington Redskins CB Darrell Green have been named finalists to be considered for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Other finalists include DE Fred Dean, DE Richard Dent, RB Marshall Goldberg, LB Randy Gradishar, OG Russ Grimm, P Ray Guy, OG Bob Kuechenberg, OG Randall McDaniel, WR Art Monk, WR Andre Reed, commissioner Paul Tagliabue, LB Derrick Thomas, CB Emmitt Thomas, LB Andre Tippett and OT Gary Zimmerman. The Board of Selectors will meet Saturday, Feb. 2, to elect the Hall of Fame Class of 2008.

Cowboys | Glenn aiming for 20 seasons

Clarence E. Hill Jr., of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Dallas Cowboys CB Aaron Glenn, a 14-year NFL veteran, has no plans to end his career anytime soon. "I think I can play for six or seven more years," Glenn said. (Former Washington Redskins CB) Darrell Green went 20. I am shooting for it. Darrell is a real good friend of mine. He is from Houston. I continue to pick his brain." Glenn is serving as the club's nickel back this season.

Redskins | Republicans trying to get D. Green to run for the state Senate

The Washington Post reports leading Northern Virginia Republicans are urging former Washington Redskins CB Darrell Green to run for the state Senate from Loudoun County next year. Green lives in Loudoun and has been running a nonprofit foundation since he left the team three years ago. The Republicans are hoping he can use his fame on the football field to oust newly elected Democrat Mark R. Herring.

Buccaneers | Brooks Wants to Retire as a Buccaneer

Rick Stroud, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Derrick Brooks understands the business aspect of his profession, but says that it is "very important" for him to retire as a member of the Buccaneers. "Let's not be naive to the system. For the countless examples of people who have changed teams, there are countless of examples of people who haven't changed teams," the 32-year old Brooks said. "Darrell Green finished his career with the Redskins and he always was one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league. Brett Favre got a $100-million contract a few years ago and they found a way to keep him, so it can be done. Is it important to me? Yes. Is it in my hands? No." Brooks has five years remaining on his contract, which calls for a $12.7 salary-cap hit by 2009, a number the club will likely be forced to restructure at some point.

NFL | Man Accused of Scamming NFL Players

Ben Nuckols, of the Associated Press, reports a 29-year old Maryland man is facing multiple charges of theft and identify theft after stealing or attempting to steal from NFL players QB Donovan McNabb (Eagles), DT Warren Sapp (Raiders) and retired CB Darrell Green (Redskins). Lewis Sills made phone calls and claimed to be a random NFL player while requesting money from those players. Sills was arrested after Sapp found the request suspicious and contacted his financial manager, who preceded to contact local authorities. In addition to the theft charges, Sills is also charged with resisting arrest and assaulting officers after a chase and struggle when he tried to retrieve wired money from Sapp.

The Washington Post reports Washington Redskins CB Darrell Green, who plans to retire at the end of the year, will be playing in the final game of his 20-year career with the Redskins on Sunday. He’s scheduled to speak to the crowd before the game and he’s going to be added to the team’s “Ring of Fame” during the pregame ceremony.
