The Chicago White Sox signed free-agent RP Mitchell Boggs (Rockies) to a one-year, $1.1 million deal Friday, Feb. 7. In a corresponding move, RP Deunte Heath was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte, but he'll be invited to spring training as a non-roster invite.
Fantasy Tip: Boggs has closing experience from his days with the St. Louis Cardinals. After the White Sox traded away Addison Reed, they don't have a clear saves leader heading into 2014, although Nate Jones appears to be the early favorite. Keep Boggs' name tucked away if you're scraping the barrel for saves speculators in AL-only leagues.

Colorado Rockies CL Rafael Betancourt (appendix) was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to appendicitis. RP Mitchell Boggs was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs. RP Rex Brothers will serve as the closer while Betancourt is out.
Fantasy Tip: Pick up Brothers in all formats. It's unknown how long Betancourt will be out. Appendix surgery can take four to six weeks, but they have a less invasive procedure now that can allow players to heal quickly. This probably eliminates him from any consideration to be traded (unless they pull off a waiver deal in August), so it looks like Brothers' time as stopper depends directly on how rapidly Betancourt returns to action.

The Colorado Rockies acquired RP Mitchell Boggs from the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday, July 9, in exchange for international slot money.
Fantasy Tip: Boggs won't be in any position to pitch in meaningful late-inning situations for Colorado, at least not initially.

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said RP Trevor Rosenthal was unavailable to pitch in a save situation Thursday, May 30, because he had warmed up to pitch in the previous five games. RP Edward Mujica was also unavailable, so RP Mitchell Boggs received the save chance, which he promptly blew. Boggs has allowed a run in two of his three outings since being recalled from the minors May 19.
Fantasy Tip: Boggs has been pretty awful this year, and another blown save likely means he won't get another shot at locking a game down in the ninth unless something drastic happens to Mujica or Rosenthal. Mujica has been rock-steady in the closer's role and is currently in no danger of relinquishing the job to Rosenthal.
