Cardinals | Jaime Garcia pushed back

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 14:49:55 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (groin) won't start Tuesday, June 30, but could pitch Wednesday, July 1. The team could opt to skip his next start altogether.

Fantasy Tip: The team is treating the oft-injured lefty with kid gloves because he has become a vital part to their success. At $7,100 (14.2% of cap), he's a big risk in his next start with the gimpy groin.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia on track

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 20:55:57 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (groin) is on track to make his next scheduled start after leaving his start Wednesday, June 24, with a cramp in his groin.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) owns a stout 1.69 ERA, and while modest strikeout totals cap his upside, he is still well worth his price tag at FantasyScore right now.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia left with injury

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 05:41:05 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (groin) left the game Wednesday, June 24, with a cramp in his groin while running the bases. Garcia said he'd be fine for his next start.

Fantasy Tip: Hopefully for the resurgent Garcia ($7,100, 14.2% of cap), it was just a hydration issue in the Miami heat. Keep an eye on his status because Garcia is pitching like a stud right now.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia squares record at 3-3

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 22:08:12 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia allowed one earned run, five hits and no walks with four strikeouts over seven innings in a win Wednesday, June 24, against the Miami Marlins to even his record at 3-3.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($7,100; or 14.2% of cap) has pitched better than his record indicates, as he has a 1.69 ERA. He has made seven starts this season and he has a quality start in each of the outings.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia is an innings eater

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 18:19:54 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia is the probable starter for Thursday, June 18, against the Minnesota Twins. He has a 1-2 record in three June starts, but a stellar 1.23 ERA with 16 strikeouts over 22 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($7,100; or 14.2% of cap) hasnít been getting great run support, but he goes deep into games, doesnít allow many runs and posts decent strikeout totals. You canít ask for much more in FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia dethrones Royals

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 06:13:42 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia pitched eight scoreless innings with six strikeouts and just four hits against during the Cardinals' 4-0 win over the Kansas City Royals Friday, June 12. It was Garica's second win of the season.

Fantasy Tip: After pitching just 99 innings over the past two seasons due to injury and missing the beginning of 2015, it appears Garcia ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) is back on the fantasy radar. His 0.89 WHIP and 2.90 FIP are solid indicators, and Garcia is averaging seven innings per start. He is a sneaky value in FantasyScore contests when facing a weak offense, and he warrants attention in deep mixed leagues.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia has finger issue

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 07:24:22 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (finger) had his sore left middle finger examined last week but is expected to start Monday, June 1, against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has a decent matchup but is a fringe starting option on FantasyScore. It might be beneficial to stack Brewers like Carlos Gomez, Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez against Garcia today.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia has positive outing

Thu, 21 May 2015 15:32:00 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia walked five but allowed only two runs in seven innings in a loss to the New York Mets Thursday, May 21, in his first outing since June 20 of last season. He allowed five hits (one home run) and struck out three while throwing 60 of his 102 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: The five walks aside, this was a very positive first step for Garcia ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) in his return to the rotation. If he continues to pitch well, he should stick in the rotation spot that was vacated by the season-ending injury to Adam Wainwright (Achilles'). Be cautious when using Garcia at FantasyScore for a bit longer, but he could be a successful matchup play.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia returning

Mon, 18 May 2015 06:54:27 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) will come off the disabled list to start Thursday, May 21, against the New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) probably isn't a good FantasyScore option in his first outing in almost a year.

Cardinals | Jaime Garcia starting in minors Sunday

Wed, 06 May 2015 14:53:42 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) is scheduled to start for Triple-A Memphis Sunday, May 10. He is expected to be on a pitch limit of approximately 80 pitches.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has been limited to 99 innings over the past two seasons, although, he has posted respectable ratios for deep mixed and NL-only leagues when on the hill: 3.82 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 7.5 K/9. Plus, he'll pitch for a strong team which should yield plenty of ticks in the win column. Still, Garcia's shoulder has been highly problematic dating back to 2012. Continue to monitor his progression through his rehab assignment.
