New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Tuesday, April 8. He'll miss the rest of the 2014 season.
Fantasy Tip: This leaves a giant vacuum in the Mets' SV picture, which is currently being filled by Jose Valverde. This gives him some more leeway, and he's looked decent lately. But for the rest of the season, he's a shaky bet. Others, including Jeurys Familia, Gonzalez Germen and Vic Black or someone not currently on the club could chime in. Valverde is best used as a third mixed closer. Be careful.

Team doctors have told New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) that there is a "50-50" chance that he will need to have Tommy John surgery, and Parnell said he may make the decision on whether to have the surgery in two weeks instead of waiting the full six weeks that includes a throwing program. "I want to make sure if I do have surgery I give myself the best bet to get back for next year and have the recovery time," Parnell said.
Fantasy Tip: If Parnell decides not to have the surgery, there's still a chance that he fully tears the ligament eventually and requires TJS. The odds are probably against him at this point. Keep him in your DL spot until he makes a decision.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said it will be six weeks before the team will know if RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) can avoid having significant elbow surgery.
Fantasy Tip: This could easily end up being another lost season for Parnell. Collins said the ligament tear is in an area where the ligament is quite thick, so that could be the silver lining from this whole ordeal. Leave Parnell in a DL slot until we have a more definitive answer on his arm.

The New York Mets will place RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) on the disabled list, and they'll purchase the contract of RP Kyle Farnsworth from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: A lot would have to happen for Farnsworth to become the team's next closer with Parnell sidelined. Jose Valverde should be owned in all leagues by now, and Vic Black might even receive a shot before Farnsworth is called upon in the ninth.
