Mets | Bobby Parnell throws rehab inning

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 09:36:57 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) pitched one inning for High-A St. Lucie Thursday, April 16. He allowed two runs and two hits without a strikeout. His fastball was between 89-93 mph in the outing.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell will likely need more time on the farm before returning. He could figure into the closing mix soon after he returns, but Jeurys Familia has converted four saves this week. Stash Parnell in deep leagues.

Mets | Bobby Parnell begins rehab stint

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 18:55:28 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) began a minor-league rehab assignment with Class A Advanced St. Lucie Tuesday, April 14. He was scheduled to pitch one inning, his first game action since opening day 2014 when he suffered a partially-torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, necessitating Tommy John surgery. Manager Terry Collins said he wants to see Parnell pitch in back-to-back games, preferably more than once, before activating him from the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell might be back sometime before mid-May on this timetable, and when he does get back he will compete with Jeurys Familia for save chances.

Mets | Bobby Parnell set for rehab assignment

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 10:55:00 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) is set to start a rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie in the next day or two, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Parnell should be activated from the disabled list no later than May 1 after returning from Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Things have really changed in New York now that Jenrry Mejia has been suspended 80 games for performance-enhancing substances. Parnell should be owned in all leagues and stashed in a DL spot. He's expected to be given every shot to earn the closer's job back from Jeurys Familia when he's ready.

Mets | Bobby Parnell won't be rushed back

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 16:37:39 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) will not be rushed back, according to general manager Sandy Alderson.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell should be stashed in a DL spot until he's ready to return, and he's expected to jump right back into the closing role. Making things more interesting is the fact that Jenrry Mejia (elbow) didn't pitch in the ninth on opening day due to elbow stiffness. Mejia owners or those looking for saves should immediately run to the waiver wire and grab Jeurys Familia.

Mets | Bobby Parnell pitches Wednesday

Wed, 01 Apr 2015 12:29:12 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) pitched in a minor league game Wednesday, April 1, and allowed two doubles and a home run during his one inning of work. Parnell's velocity was at 88 to 89 mph against the first batter but went up to 93 to 94 mph later in the outing.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell is expected to miss at least the first month of the season as he works his way back from elbow surgery. Owners could consider selecting Parnell in the later rounds of drafts and stashing him on the disabled list until he is able to return. Jennry Mejia is expected to open the season as the closer and could also be a later-round option.

Mets | Bobby Parnell could return in May

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 10:56:41 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) is unlikely to return in April, and he's hoping to be back sometime in May, although he's not setting that in stone.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets have said that Parnell is expected to be handed the closer's role back when he's ready to return, so that makes him worth drafting with a late-round pick and stashing in a DL spot. Jenrry Mejia is the favorite to see most of the save chances until then, and he's also a late-round closer option, preferably handcuffed with Parnell.

Mets | Bobby Parnell's velocity down

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 10:13:52 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) has not returned to the velocity he had pre-Tommy John surgery, and he is more than 11 months removed from the procedure. He was around 90 mph with his fastball during his outing in a minor league game, and he topped out at 92 mph.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell will open the season on the disabled list, but it's expected that he'll regain the closer's job when he's ready to return. Snatch him up as a late-round pick in mixed leagues. Pairing him with Jenrry Mejia would be ideal.

Mets | Bobby Parnell set to pitch Friday

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 13:23:16 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) will pitch in a minor league game Friday, March 20.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell is penciled in as the closer role when he returns, but he may not be ready when the regular season starts. In his absence, expect Jenrry Mejia to handle the ninth-inning duties. Mejia has fleeting value in deep formats, but there is also no guarantee Parnell returns and sticks in the role, either. Parnell is worth selecting as one of the last closers off the board in drafts.

Mets | Bobby Parnell to pitch in game

Mon, 16 Mar 2015 14:36:35 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) is scheduled to pitch in a minor league game Tuesday, March 16, in the next step of his recovery from Tommy John surgery, according to manager Terry Collins. Parnell hasn't pitched in a game since opening day of 2014.

Fantasy Tip: It's unknown if Parnell will be ready to go on opening day. If he doesn't, Jenrry Mejia is expected to see the majority of save chances in his absence. The Mets have indicated that Parnell will be given the closer's job back when he's ready, though, which still makes him worth drafting for saves. However, owning Mejia as a handcuff to Parnell makes sense.

Mets | Bobby Parnell injures hamstring

Wed, 11 Mar 2015 13:22:19 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (hamstring) injured his left hamstring during pitcher's fielding practice Tuesday, March 10. He is expected to be ready to pitch in a few days.

Fantasy Tip: The real concern surrounding Parnell is his recovery from Tommy John surgery, as this hamstring issue is considered minor. Parnell is already expected to start the season on the disabled list, so any additional setbacks hinder his fantasy stock. Still, he is expected to return to the closer role when healthy, so he is a worthy target as the final closers are coming off the board on draft day. Jenrry Mejia is worth a late-round flier for saves to start the year.
