The Oakland Athletics have officially placed SP A.J. Griffin (elbow), RPs Ryan Cook (shoulder) and Fernando Rodriguez (elbow) and OF Craig Gentry (back) on the 15-day disabled list. The moves are retroactive to March 21, meaning they are eligible to return as soon as Saturday, April 5.

Oakland Athletics RP Fernando Rodriguez (elbow) faced hitters Tuesday, Feb. 25, for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last March. He was surprised by the results. "Not what I expected it to be, I guess, because I had such an adrenaline rush, so the ball was flying out of my hand," Rodriguez said. "It's kind of exciting. It's something I've been waiting for a while. I couldn't have asked for a better day for it being the first time throwing off the mounds to hitters."

Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Saturday, Feb. 22, that he is extremely encouraged by the recovery progress of RP Fernando Rodriguez (elbow) from Tommy John surgery. He is nearly a year removed from the operation. While he is not expected to work in Cactus League spring games, he's already looking "like he could pitch in a game right now," according to Melvin. He is out of options, but likely to start the season on the 15-day disabled list so the team can get him a handful of minor-league rehab appearances with Triple-A Sacramento.
