Baltimore Orioles RP Zach Britton nailed down the save Thursday, May 15.
Fantasy Tip: Darren O'Day pitched 1 2/3 innings and came on in the sixth inning. Troy Patton and Ryan Webb pitched the eighth. That should give us a pretty good indication of manager Buck Showalter's hand in the closer situation.

Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter would not indicate whether he'd use RP Tommy Hunter in a save situation if one comes up Wednesday, May 14, after Hunter blew the save by allowing four runs in two-thirds of an inning Tuesday, May 13. Showalter typically likes to avoid closer-by-committee setups, but he said he'll consider everything.
Fantasy Tip: Hunter has been beat up lately in multiple blown save chances. Showalter likes to give his closers long leashes, but Hunter doesn't have the track record that Showalter's former closer, Jim Johnson had. This would be the perfect time to make a chance if Showalter wanted to, and Darren O'Day is the likely candidate to take some ninth-inning chances if Hunter needs a break.

Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter is unlikely to use RP Tommy Hunter in a save opportunity Saturday, May 3. He appeared in both games of a doubleheader Thursday, May 1, and also recorded the save Friday, May 2.
Fantasy Tip: Darren O'Day appears to be the O's reliever most likely to get called upon in case of a save opportunity Saturday.

Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter officially named RP Tommy Hunter the team's closer Monday, March 31. "If we get in that situation, Tommy will get an opportunity to do that job for us," Showalter said of Hunter, who was widely expected to be Baltimore's ninth-inning man after this winter's trade of RP Jim Johnson to the Oakland Athletics.
Fantasy Tip: This was expected all spring, but many drafters selected Darren O'Day as speculation. O'Day should still be owned in most leagues, since Hunter has never had any closing experience, and Showalter's leash may be short.

Now that the Seattle Mariners signed RP Fernando Rodney to be their closer, the chances of Baltimore Orioles RP Tommy Hunter serving as the closer to start the year have gone way up. The Orioles were one of the finalists to land Rodney for their bullpen. Hunter would like the chance to close if he's not a candidate for the starting rotation. Manager Buck Showalter has said RPs Darren O'Day and Ryan Webb won't be in line to pitch in the ninth on a regular basis. Baltimore continues to keep tabs on free-agent RPs Joel Hanrahan (Red Sox) and Andrew Bailey (Red Sox), however.

The Baltimore Orioles have listened to offers for CL Jim Johnson but no firm talks of a deal with any team have been disclosed. Should Johnson be dealt, RPs Tommy Hunter and Darren O'Day have been discussed as replacements, but the team values O'Day as more of a setup specialist.

Baltimore Orioles RP Darren O'Day (fingers) will not travel with the team for their series against the Toronto Blue Jays because he is feeling numbness in his index and middle fingers in his pitching hand. O'Day may meet with a hand specialist to have his fingers examined.
