Ravens | No timetable for Danny Woodhead

Fri, 13 Oct 2017 17:28:42 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Danny Woodhead (hamstring) does not have a timetable for when he will return to practice, but head coach John Harbaugh said Woodhead will be evaluated in the near future. Woodhead is on the Reserve/Injured list but could be designated to return.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead was placed on the Reserve/Injured list after Week 1, so he could return to the field in a few weeks. He probably will be a receiver out of the backfield when he returns and will be valuable in point-per-reception leagues.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead to IR, out eight weeks

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 09:17:00 -0700

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) is expected to return in eight weeks and was placed on the Reserve/Injured list designated to return Thursday, Sept. 14. He will not require surgery. RB Jeremy Langford was signed to the active roster.

Fantasy Tip: If you're in a PPR format, a case can be made to stash him. However, if you need the spot, you can dump him. Terrance West and Javorius Allen figure to see boosts in his absence in the RB3 range. Langford is a speculative grab in deep formats.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead injury update

Tue, 12 Sep 2017 18:19:23 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks with his hamstring injury, instead of the initial four-to-six-week timeline he was previously given.

Fantasy Tip: The new timeline makes Woodhead a candidate for the Reserve/Injured list and sets back an offense that was counting on him to help the team replace many of the short-range targets left behind by players such as Steve Smith and Dennis Pitta. Woodhead should be stashed in leagues with deeper benches and probably dropped in shallow leagues that don't have an IR spot, while Javorius Allen and Terrance West figure to share backfield work in his absence.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead out at least a month

Tue, 12 Sep 2017 12:56:04 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) will be sidelined four to six weeks with his hamstring injury, according to sources. He is expected to play again this season.

Fantasy Tip: The ramifications of Woodhead's injury aren't as serious as originally thought, but he'll still miss some significant time. For those who have Woodhead rostered, Javorius Allen makes for a great free-agent pickup this week, especially in PPR leagues. Be sure to place Woodhead on Injured Reserve to make room for another roster spot.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead's status still unknown

Mon, 11 Sep 2017 13:38:30 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead's (hamstring) timetable won't be known until Tuesday, Sept. 12, according to head coach John Harbaugh. Woodhead is believed to have suffered a serious hamstring injury.

Fantasy Tip: Terrance West will continue to be Baltimore's primary runner, but Javorius Allen will be one of the most coveted names on the waiver wire if Woodhead misses a good portion of the season. Allen has more appeal in PPR leagues.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead leaves game early

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 10:32:22 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) left the Week 1 game early because of a hamstring injury. He is considered doubtful to return.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead dealt with a hamstring injury during the preseason and likely aggravated the injury in Week 1. There is a good chance that Woodhead will miss some games because of the injury, but owners will need to monitor the situation. Terrance West would be a No. 2 fantasy running back if Woodhead misses time.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead will be an important part of the offense because of his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He could also receive a few carries against the Cincinnati Bengals. He can be considered a low-end No. 2 running back or flex option in point-per-receptions leagues and a flex option in standard leagues.

Wed, 06 Sep 2017 13:31:58 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (thigh) was listed as a full participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Fantasy Tip: It appears as if the Ravens will have a full cadre of skill position players for their game in Cincinnati, with Woodhead being the newest weapon in Joe Flacco's arsenal. Woodhead is a decent low-end option in PPR leagues for his soft hands out of the backfield.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead back at practice

Sat, 02 Sep 2017 12:10:44 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) participated in practice Saturday, Sept. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead has been sidelined for several weeks because of his injury but appears to have a chance to play in the regular season opener. Woodhead should be used out of the backfield this season, which makes him a valuable player in point-per-reception leagues. He should be considered a No. 2 running back in PPR leagues and a No. 3 back or flex option in standard leagues.

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 23, and is not expected to play in the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills Saturday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need keep an eye on the situation to see if Woodhead is in any danger of missing Week 1. Woodhead probably will be mostly a pass catcher for the Ravens but may also receive a few carries each game. He can be a No. 2 running back in point-per-reception leagues if he can recover from his injury.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead has hamstring injury

Wed, 23 Aug 2017 06:52:15 -0700

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) is dealing with a hamstring injury that could end his preseason. The hope is he'll be ready for the season opener.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead could sneak into the RB2 discussion in PPR formats, but his injury propensity doesn't make him a safe commodity there.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead sits out again

Sun, 20 Aug 2017 14:49:15 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead is being held out of practice because of an injury he suffered in the second preseason game, so owners will need to see if he will be able to play in the third preseason game. He should be used mostly has a receiver out of the backfield this season and will be valuable in point-per-reception leagues. He can be a low-end No. 2 or a flex option in PPR leagues and a No. 3 running back or flex option in standard leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Woodhead is dealing with a minor or a more serious injury. Ravens | Joe Flacco excited by Danny Woodhead

Wed, 19 Jul 2017 21:05:58 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead has impressed his new teammates thus far -- specifically QB Joe Flacco -- not just with what he can do after making a reception, but also before making the catch. "Really, ever since we lost Ray Rice, we haven't had a type of back that's quite like how Ray was and quite like how Danny is in the passing game," Flacco said. "They just have a very good feel for when they're open and how to get open, how to sit in holes, how to find my eyes, and you can already see that. You can see he has a really good feel for those kinds of things. If you remember back, obviously, Ray was really good at doing that, and that gives a lot to your offense for sure."

Fantasy Tip: One way to make an immediate impact on a new team is to be on the same page with your quarterback, and that clearly appears to be the case here as it pertains to Woodhead. While he won't dominate the touches out of the backfield, the eight-year veteran still figures to play a crucial role in Baltimore, and could end up providing notable valuable in PPR fantasy leagues as a result. He deserves consideration in deeper standard formats, too.

Ravens | Terrance West the Week 1 starter?

Fri, 07 Jul 2017 18:58:16 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Terrance West is projected to be the starter in Week 1, according to Ryan Mink of BaltimoreRavens.com, with RB Danny Woodhead seeing some carries but being used mainly in the passing game.

Fantasy Tip: With a four-game suspension looming for Kenneth Dixon, West could have some flex value early in the year. Long term, Woodhead is probably the safest Baltimore back to own because of his role in the passing attack.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead active in practice

Mon, 19 Jun 2017 06:48:34 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead was a popular target in the passing game during minicamp last week.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead has durability concerns and isn't that great of a runner, but he has two 76-plus-catch seasons on his resume. He'll be a back-end option in PPR leagues.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead being utilized

Thu, 01 Jun 2017 19:44:49 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead was a frequent target of QB Joe Flacco during practice Thursday, June 1, and Woodhead was used in a variety of ways throughout the session.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead is as dangerous as any back in the passing game, and he has been effective in the red zone throughout his career. He is a RB3 candidate in standard leagues and a potential RB2 in PPR formats.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead confident in recovery

Fri, 10 Mar 2017 16:37:28 -0800

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (knee) said he believes he will be the same playmaker in 2017 as he has always been even though he is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead should be the team's third-down back and will have a solid role in the passing game. He should be ready for training camp at the latest and will be a valuable option in point-per-reception leagues. He can be considered a low-end No. 2 or No. 3 back in PPR leagues and a No. 3 receiver in other leagues if he is healthy.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead headed to Baltimore

Wed, 08 Mar 2017 19:39:26 -0800

Los Angeles Chargers impending free-agent RB Danny Woodhead agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, March 8, according to a source. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has talked about adding to his backfield all offseason and it appears he got his man. Woodhead tore his ACL in September, so he's nearly six months removed from surgery and reportedly on track. The addition of Woodhead is bad news for both Terrance West, who could be forced to share goal-line duties, and Kenneth Dixon, who will almost certainly give up passing-down duties. It's hard to like any of the three as anything more than a flex at the moment.

Broncos | Danny Woodhead receiving interest in DEN

Tue, 07 Mar 2017 09:20:43 -0800

Los Angeles Chargers impending free-agent RB Danny Woodhead (knee) is far enough along from his anterior cruciate ligament tear that he's receiving interest from the Denver Broncos and another team.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead had 80 catches and nine total scores two years ago, and he could be a solid backup running back in a PPR format.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead wanted back

Thu, 02 Mar 2017 09:11:37 -0800

Los Angeles Chargers impending free-agent RB Danny Woodhead has been given an offer to re-sign with the Chargers, according to Woodhead's agent. The details of the offer were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead has RB1 potential in PPR scoring when he can play a full season. Unfortunately, he has missed significant time in two of the past three seasons. He's your typical example of a high risk, high reward player. Yes, he'll be playing behind Melvin Gordon, but Woodhead has been successful as a backup throughout his career. If he's back to full health this offseason, which he should be, then view him as an RB2 to RB3 in PPR formats.

Chargers | Chargers seek to bring back Danny Woodhead

Mon, 30 Jan 2017 22:04:35 -0800

The Los Angeles Chargers are hoping to re-sign RB Danny Woodhead (knee) this offseason. Woodhead is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead is coming off a torn ACL that he sustained way back in Week 2, but it's not the first time the 32-year-old is seeking to return from a major injury. After missing most of the 2014 season, Woodhead returned the next year and suited up in all 16 games, while being a valuable contributor, so it's very possible that he does the same in 2017. However, with Melvin Gordon establishing himself as a fine every-down back, he could be looking at less touches if he goes back to the Bolts.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead ahead of schedule

Tue, 17 Jan 2017 12:29:07 -0800

Los Angeles Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (knee) is six weeks ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead is an underrated weapon for the Chargers, particularly in the passing game. When he's healthy for a full season he's capable of low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 numbers in PPR leagues, even with Melvin Gordon running the ball most of the time. Of course, the shifty back is a free agent his year, so his future with the Chargers isn't guaranteed.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead eyeing return

Fri, 06 Jan 2017 20:56:23 -0800

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (knee) said he isn't concerned about his knee injury and expects to be the same productive player when he returns.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead will be a free agent, but if he ends up back in San Diego, his role in the passing game and red zone makes him a legitimate RB2 in PPR formats.

Chargers | San Diego likely to sign Dexter McCluster

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 10:40:49 -0700

Free-agent RB Dexter McCluster (Titans) is expected to sign RB Dexter McCluster shortly to fill the pass-catching role out of the backfield left behind by the season-ending ACL injury to Danny Woodhead, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fantasy Tip: McCluster is familiar with offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt from their days together in Tennessee. While McCluster isn't quite the well-rounded runner Woodhead is and won't be nearly as active at the goal line, he should be scooped up right away in most leagues. Given his familiarity with Whisenhunt's system, he should be able to contribute immediately and could have a Theo Riddick-like (circa 2015) impact in fantasy.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead placed on IR

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 13:33:09 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list with a torn anterior cruciate ligament Monday, Sept. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Melvin Gordon figures to be a three-down running back with Woodhead gone and is a borderline RB1 going forward. Branden Oliver is out for the season, too, so Kenneth Farrow might be worth a pickup in deeper leagues.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead likely out for season

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 11:48:55 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (knee) is reportedly still awaiting MRI results, but the team is "pretty certain" he tore his ACL in a Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead was ticketed for another huge pass-catching role with Keenan Allen suffering the same injury in Week 1. As a result of the former's injury, Melvin Gordon may very well become an every-down back and should be treated as a high-end RB2 going forward.

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 13:52:24 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (knee) was carried off the field, Sunday, Sept. 18, unable to put any weight on his injured knee. Woodhead was being evaluated by team trainers on the sideline before a cart brought him into the locker room for further testing.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a huge blow to PPR owners looking for the explosive pass-catcher to be a weekly lineup play. Check back for more details.

Chargers | Melvin Gordon not benched in Week 1

Sat, 17 Sep 2016 12:04:02 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon drew compliments from offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt for his play in Week 1 versus the Kansas City Chiefs. Whisenhunt insists Gordon was mostly the victim of circumstance, suggesting San Diego had an effective personnel grouping including Danny Woodhead that got the offense into third-and-manageable situations in the second half. "I certainly was very pleased with how Melvin played. That's my first experience with him in a regular-season game. And I thought he did a tremendous job," Whisenhunt said.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead held a 50-23 advantage in snaps over Gordon in a game the Chargers led by multiple scores for roughly half of the contests. Woodhead remains the most trusted option of the two at this point and Gordon's workloads are going to depend greatly on the flow of the game. The second-year back should expect to see roughly 15 touches per week going forward and be considered a strong RB3 for the time being.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead the preferred back?

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 18:37:33 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon had six carries in the second half against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1, and head coach Ken Whisenhunt said he felt packages with RB Danny Woodhead were more effective.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon scored twice in the first half, so it is discouraging how his workload dropped in the second half. He still has time to carve out a steady role, but you should view him as a RB3 for the time being.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead would like long-term deal

Sun, 28 Aug 2016 23:58:43 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead would like a long-term deal with the club but contract talks have been unproductive, and he is now focusing on the upcoming season.

Fantasy Tip: Provided the contract talks don't prove to be a distraction, Woodhead could be a potential sleeper RB in terms of end-zone scores. He is the type of back that often plunges into the end zone from five yards or less.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead back at full health

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 14:32:22 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (ankle) said he's as healthy as he's been in a long time after suffering a scary ankle injury this offseason. The versatile running back added that he feels great heading into the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead is one of the top pass-catching running backs in the NFL today. There's no reason to think he can't finish as an RB1 in PPR leagues, but it's safer to draft him as an RB2 in such formats with Melvin Gordon healthy and returning.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead to be ready for camp

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 13:57:07 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (ankle) is expected to be ready for training camp despite suffering a sprained ankle earlier in June.

Fantasy Tip: As stated earlier, Woodhead is a solid low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 candidate in PPR leagues despite splitting time with Melvin Gordon.

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 15:42:32 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (ankle) suffered a sprained ankle in practice Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead has avoided a serious injury, but the Chargers could take it easy with their unsung running back leading up to training camp. He's still a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 consideration in PPR leagues.

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 12:19:48 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (leg) was injured during practice Wednesday, June 15, but walked off the field under his own power.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't sound too serious, but Woodhead's status will definitely need to be monitored in the coming days. If he avoided anything major, he's still worth a high-end RB2 selection in PPR formats.

Chargers | Chargers leaning towards RB committee

Fri, 27 May 2016 11:38:39 -0700

San Diego Chargers RBs Melvin Gordon, Danny Woodhead and Branden Oliver will each be "used to their strengths" in the upcoming season in helping comprise a committee, according to running backs coach Ollie Wilson. "Those guys can do a lot of different things and they have all bought in to working together and having their own role instead of being (angry) not getting all the touches," he said. "They understand we don't have just one starter here. They are all part of our scheme and system."

Fantasy Tip: As proven last year, the Chargers can make this work for all involved. Woodhead, for instance, is as good as anyone in catching passes out of the backfield, and is capable of running all sorts of routes. He's also serviceable in goal-line situations, which arguably makes him the most valuable of all Chargers running backs. Gordon probably has the highest ceiling and will still see a lot of work, though this may hinder his overall outlook, considering the hype he had as a rookie last year. Oliver, meanwhile, should also see some usage in both rush attempts and receiving targets.

Chargers | San Diego to use all RBs

Fri, 13 May 2016 12:46:07 -0700

San Diego Chargers RBs Melvin Gordon, Danny Woodhead and Branden Oliver will all receive playing time in 2016, according to offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt. Whisenhunt said there will be times that two of the running backs will be on the field at the same time. The team will have packages for each running back so they can put them in positions where they will succeed.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon probably will receive most of the carries in 2016 if he is able to stay healthy. Gordon rushed for only 641 yards and zero touchdowns in 2015 but is coming off microfracture surgery, which makes him a risky No. 2 or No. 3 back for owners. Woodhead will be involved in the running and passing game and will be valuable in all fantasy leagues. Oliver should see playing time in each game but will not be a strong option.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead leads RBs in receiving

Mon, 04 Jan 2016 14:54:49 -0800

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead led all running backs in targets (107), receptions (81), receiving yards (756) and receiving touchdowns (6) this season.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead finished as a top-five fantasy running back in PPR leagues this season after only playing in three games last year. A slew of Chargers injuries helped increase his utilization, but he also finished as a PPR RB1 two years ago, too, so this wasn't a fluke. He should be viewed as a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 in PPR leagues next season.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead totals 13 touches

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 22:17:41 -0800

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead rushed five times for 11 yards in the Week 17 game against the Denver Broncos, and he added eight receptions for 51 yards on 10 targets.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead was very useful to Philip Rivers, especially down the stretch, with a banged up offensive line. He was a great safety valve, and outstanding fantasy option to those in points per reception (PPR) leagues. If he is back with the Chargers in 2016, he'll be the backup to Melvin Gordon, and a decent PPR option again.

Chargers | Six touches for Danny Woodhead

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 21:05:47 -0800

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead ran three times for five yards in the Week 14 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and he added three grabs for eight yards on six targets.

Fantasy Tip: The Chargers have moved away from Woodhead, trying to pound the ball more with rookie Melvin Gordon in recent weeks. The offensive line cannot block for Gordon, so the Chargers might be better off using the scatback Woodhead more. However, Gordon is the future, Woodhead is not.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead has seven touches

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 18:55:17 -0800

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead ran six times for just seven yards in the Week 11 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Woodhead also added one reception for nine yards.

Fantasy Tip: The Chargers have a versatile back out of the backfield, but for whatever reason they choose not to use Woodhead even with a banged up wide receiver corps. They continue to try and establish the run with Gordon, and even Woodhead up the middle, but the offensive line is banged up and it is just not possible. It can be maddening for Woodhead's fantasy owners, as he can do things and is just not used properly.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead leads in TD catches

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 10:44:57 -0800

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead leads all running backs in the NFL in receiving touchdowns this year after he finished second to Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles in 2013.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead has three touchdown catches, including one that game last Monday night in Week 9. He's a favorite of Philip Rivers' and is favored over rookie Melvin Gordon in the red zone, too. With even more injuries to San Diego's wideouts, Woodhead's role as a pass-catching running back will expand even more. He's one of the safest flex plays in PPR leagues you can find.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead could break record

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 16:35:30 -0800

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead is on pace for 926 receiving yards in 2015, which would set the single-season record for receiving yards by a San Diego running back.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead has been one of the most consistent running backs in PPR leagues this year. He is an every-week starter in such scoring formats. Don't play him this week, though, as the Chargers have their bye.
