Dallas Cowboys CB Morris Claiborne (hamstring) is with family and friends in Shreveport, La., dealing with the death of his father, Robert Owens. Claiborne had been dealing with a hamstring injury but had to curtail some of his rehab work because of the family issue. "He's very close with his family," Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said. "Very close in Louisiana and suddenly his father passed away at a relatively young age. He was not what I wold call an older man. Having said that, it tore his world up so he immediately left to be with his family. We knew he wasn't going to play this week and that's besides the point. He wanted to be with his family and we're giving him all of the time that he needs there or wants." KFFL sends its condolences.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he is confident that defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin will be able to turn things around for the Cowboys defense. "To be doing what we're doing and to fix what we're doing, there's nobody I would rather have than him and (defensive line coach) Rod Marinelli," Jones said. "Where we are today to get this fixed over the next, if you would, week or four or five days, the next three weeks, there's nobody I would rather have to get it fixed.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he won't shake up the coaching staff during the team's bye week in Week 11. Jones said defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin won't be fired and head coach Jason Garrett won't take the play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Bill Callahan. The Cowboys were held to 193 yards of total offense in their Week 10 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The team's defense ranks last in the league with an average of 439.8 yards per game. Jones believes the team needs to play more man coverage on defense. "You need to probably man up more in the secondary than we've been doing, rather than relying on zone," Jones said. "Because if we can't get pressure and we're relying on the traditional zone as you might mentally picture it, then that's a recipe for what happened to us the other night."

Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said he is more concerned about the team defending Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush Week 8 than he is defending WR Calvin Johnson. "When I look at where we seem to have some vulnerability using the passes out of the backfield, I look at what San Diego did, I look at times what Philadelphia did, if they were able to do anything at all, coming out of that backfield. That seems defensively to be a rough area for us," Jones said.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he is not concerned with CB Morris Claiborne (knee) missing two games with a knee issue. "The injuries that he's having are not what you call the kinds of injuries that would be chronic [or] dealing with down the road to the extent "down the road" means opening night, so all of those things are not a concern," Jones said. "We know the kinds of things he's been dealing with.
"He's every bit the player we thought he was. He's every bit the athlete we thought he was."

Updating a previous item, Dallas Cowboys DE Tyrone Crawford (Achilles) was carted off the field Sunday, July 21, during the Cowboys' first practice of training camp. He was participating in slalom drills against tackling dummies when he fell to the ground and yelled in pain. He held his left ankle and lay on his back, pounding the ground in anger. "Achilles!" he told the trainers. "I can't --- believe this!" The Cowboys may now be forced to shore up the depth in the defensive line, an area owner Jerry Jones said in the offsesaon that he liked.
