Braves | Several Braves could be dealt

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:38:03 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur, 2B Gordon Beckham and RP Jim Johnson, who are all pending free agents, are the prime focus of Atlanta's trade talks as the deadline nears. OFs Ender Inciarte and Nick Markakis are also involved, but there's less of a chance they'll be traded.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur, Beckham and Johnson aren't likely to be anything more than depth for any team that acquires them in a trade this summer. Francoeur can be useful in NL-only and daily leagues in the right lefty matchups. Beckham contributes modestly across all categories for NL-only middle infield depth. Right now, Johnson is a candidate for saves in Atlanta with Arodys Vizcaino shelved, but he's already shown he's a shaky option there.

Braves | Gordon Beckham sitting vs. Reds

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 07:44:12 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 20. 2B Jace Peterson is starting at the keystone and leading off against Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham is just 6-for-31 since returning from the disabled list Thursday, July 7, but he does have two home runs. If he can tread water at the dish and remain in the leadoff spot, he'll be a low-end starting option in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Peterson had an excellent June (.352/.420/.493 slash line), but has gone just 10-for-42 in July and is nothing more than a depth option in cavernous mixed and NL-only settings. He's also nothing more than a low-priced flier in daily contests Wednesday.

Braves | Several Atlanta regulars resting Sunday

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 07:23:22 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham, SS Erick Aybar and C A.J. Pierzynski are not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Jon Gray Sunday, July 17. INF/OF Jace Peterson will bat leadoff and play second base, INF Chase d'Arnaud will bat second and play shortstop, OF Jeff Francoeur will bat fifth and play left field and C Anthony Recker will start behind the plate and bat eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur has hit safely in eight of his last nine games and is worth considering as a value play in daily fantasy contests, while Peterson, d'Arnaud and Recker should be viewed strictly as a source of desperation salary cap relief.

Braves | Gordon Beckham leading off vs. Colorado

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 13:17:29 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham is leading off against Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa Friday, July 15.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham has had a decent season when healthy and sits with a .290/.387/.458 slash line through 124 plate appearances. He's a potential low-priced flier for daily contests Friday, but don't confuse Beckham for anything other than a low-end option in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Braves | Atlanta resting two players

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 08:52:25 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jace Peterson and C A.J. Pierzynski are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Saturday, July 9. 2B Gordon Beckham will start at second base and is batting second, while C Tyler Flowers will start at catcher and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham is hitting .303 with one home run and two RBI against left-handed pitchers this season and can be a sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues. Flowers is hitting only .214 over the last seven days and should only be used in two-catcher leagues.

Braves | Jace Peterson takes a seat

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 13:21:25 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jace Peterson is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP Chris Sale Friday, July 8. SS Chase d'Arnaud is starting in left field and batting leadoff, while 2B Gordon Beckham starts at second base and hits second.

Fantasy Tip: Both d'Arnaud and Beckham aren't offensive juggernauts and face a daunting matchup in Sale Friday night. They're both basically depth options in NL-only leagues and should be avoided in DFS play tonight.

Braves | Gordon Beckham starting at shortstop

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 13:05:03 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham is starting at shortstop and is hitting second in his return from the disabled list against Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel Thursday, July 7. SS Erick Aybar starts on the bench. Also, OF Ender Inciarte moves down to No. 8 in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham had earned himself regular playing time with a hot bat before his injury, but it remains to be seen how much he'll play now, as he'll likely bounce around the infield. His offensive upside is limited, however, making him more of a low-end DFS option and NL-only commodity. Inciarte hasn't worked out well for Atlanta this year and is hitting just .231 with a homer, 11 RBI and eight steals. He's a low-end DFS pick.

Braves | Gordon Beckham off the DL

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 12:29:01 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham (hamstring) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Thursday, July 7. INF/OF Emilio Bonifacio was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham has only played 31 games this year due to injuries, but he's shown well with a .284/.382/442 line, two home runs and 16 RBI. Jace Peterson has been hot of late, so it remains to be seen how much Beckham will play upon his return. He could mix in at third base with Adonis Garcia. In the end, though, Beckham probably doesn't have enough offensive upside to warrant an addition in mixed leagues.

Braves | Gordon Beckham nearing a return

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 14:40:25 -0700

Atlanta Braves INF Gordon Beckham (hamstring) is scheduled to play shortstop for an entire game with Class A Carolina Saturday, July 2. He is expected to return from the disabled list Monday, July 4, for the series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: While Beckham has shown well this season with a .284/.382/.442 slash line, he's best viewed as depth option in cavernous mixed and NL-only because of his lack of upside and limited playing time.

Braves | Gordon Beckham a week away

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 13:26:24 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham (hamstring) started his rehab assignment in the minors and went 0-for-3 Monday, June 27. Manager Brian Snitker said Beckham is around a week away from returning from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Whenever Beckham is ready, he should return to regular playing time at either second or third base for Atlanta. He has played well for the Braves this year with a .284/.382/.442 slash line, but he's mainly an NL-only asset as middle and corner infield depth because of his lack of power on a weak-hitting team.
