Giants | Buster Posey tries something new

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 20:23:41 -0700

San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey took early batting practice on the field Tuesday, April 21. He has been inconsistent through the first two weeks, hitting just .229 with two homers and six RBIs entering play. "This goes with the territory when you're not having the success you like," manager Bruce Bochy said.

Fantasy Tip: Posey remains a phenomenal FantasyScore option at $5,600 (or 11.2% of cap), even more so because baseball evens out and he is about to hit a hot streak any day now.

Giants | Buster Posey playing first Sunday

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 11:53:01 -0700

San Francisco Giants C/1B Buster Posey will start at first base against the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday, April 19. C Andrew Susac will start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: This is a way to keep Posey's ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) bat in the lineup while not putting as much strain on his body. Susac is not yet available in FantasyScore.

Giants | Brandon Belt sitting against lefty

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 15:15:24 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies left-handed SP Tyler Matzek Wednesday, April 15. C Buster Posey is starting at first base and hitting cleanup, while C Hector Sanchez is catching and hitting sixth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Belt ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is hitting just .125 this year after dealing with a groin injury in the early going. Posey ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) had the day off yesterday and should be considered a strong catching option at FantasyScore tonight.

Giants | Buster Posey resting Tuesday

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 15:34:30 -0700

San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey (neck, shoulder) is sitting out Tuesday, April 14. He said his trapezius muscle was tight Monday, April 13.

Fantasy Tip: Posey's injury doesn't seem serious at all. Expect him back in there tomorrow. Hector Sanchez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) gets the starting nod behind the dish, and he's hitting seventh in the order. There are better catching options at your disposal than Sanchez at FantasyScore.

Giants | Brandon Belt remains out

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 15:45:01 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (groin) remains out of the starting lineup Friday, April 10. C Buster Posey is starting at first and hitting fourth, while C Hector Sanchez is behind the plate and hitting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Belt ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) may not be back in the lineup until next week, so play it safe and avoid him at FantasyScore. Posey ($5,600, 11.2% of cap), as always, is one of the safer catcher options on a daily basis.

Giants | Brandon Belt out until Monday?

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 14:40:10 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (groin) might not return until the team's home opener Monday, April 13, but manager Bruce Bochy isn't ruling out using Belt in the lineup before then if he continues to progress. Belt has progressed from swinging off a tee to hitting off a machine. Bochy is looking at using 2B Matt Duffy at first base Saturday, April 11. C Buster Posey will start at first Friday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: You should avoid Belt ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) entirely this weekend at FantasyScore to be on the safe side. Joaquin Arias ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Duffy are not recommended plays in daily games against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

Giants | Buster Posey pulled after five innings

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 16:51:33 -0700

San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey (shoulder) was pulled after five innings Wednesday, March 25, with minor scapula discomfort. Posey had trouble loosening his shoulder, but the Giants don't consider it a big deal. He'll play first base Thursday, March 26, instead of catching.

Fantasy Tip: Posey ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) is the top catcher in fantasy baseball and remains an early-round pick despite the minor scare. Monitor his status going forward. If he's healthy, a showdown with one of the weaker projected opening day starters, Josh Collmenter of the Diamondbacks, would make him a strong option in FantasyScore games.

Giants | Brandon Belt to play some outfield?

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 16:27:05 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt is being discussed as an option to play the outfield in the absence of OF Hunter Pence (arm) and OF Angel Pagan (back), according to manager Bruce Bochy. If Belt plays in the outfield, it opens the possibility for C Buster Posey to play more first base. Backup Cs Hector Sanchez and Andrew Susac would get more time with Posey at first. Other outfield options include 1B Travis Ishikawa, OF Juan Perez, OF Justin Maxwell, INF Matt Duffy and 3B Adam Duvall.

Fantasy Tip: Belt is already a middle-round breakout candidate, and adding outfield eligibility would only further enhance his fantasy value.

Giants | Buster Posey better on the road

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 10:56:41 -0800

San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey has a career slash line of .328/.396/.523 with 50 home runs and 193 RBI on the road compared to .287/.350/.448 with 33 home runs and 159 RBI at home. Posey also had the highest road average (.348) of any hitter in the major leagues last season.

Fantasy Tip: Posey should continue to be the first catcher off the board in fantasy baseball drafts, and the fact that he'll continue to play more games at first base should only help his value. He gives you a proven producer across the board (minus steals) at baseball's most volatile position.
