The Houston Astros recalled 1B Brett Wallace from the minors Tuesday, June 25.
Fantasy Tip: Wallace turned things around at Triple-A Oklahoma City, hitting .326 with 16 doubles, 11 home runs and 37 RBIs in 59 games after struggling earlier this year in seven games with Houston (.042/.115/.042). Wallace can also play third base and could platoon with slumping Matt Dominguez at the hot corner. Consider Wallace in AL-only leagues.

The Houston Astros optioned 1B Brett Wallace to Triple-A Oklahoma City Thursday, April 18, and recalled 3B Brandon Laird from Oklahoma City in a corresponding move. Laird was hitting .353 with a team-high 14 RBIs in 12 games with Oklahoma City.
Fantasy Tip: Like much of the rest of the Astros roster, Wallace struggled to make contact in the early going and was fanning way too often. Laird has nice power to all fields but also struggles with strikeouts and has poor plate discipline. It's unclear how Houston plans to use him, but his past success against lefties signals he may enter into a platoon with Carlos Pena at first base. Consider him in AL-only leagues.

Houston Astros SP Edgar G. Gonzalez (leg) is feeling better after being hit by a comebacker on the back of his lower left leg Thursday, March 21. 1B Brett Wallace (neck) said he had no issues after leaving the game early Thursday with a pinched nerve in his neck and upper back. OF Fernando Martinez (back) hasn't played in a few days with tightness in his lower back, but he took batting practice Thursday and hopes to get into a game this weekend. He's hitting .333 with one homer and five RBIs in 24 at-bats in camp.

Houston Astros 1B Brett Wallace (neck) is dealing with a pinched nerve in his left trapezoid, and he's being listed as day-to-day.
Fantasy Tip: This injury bears watching if it opens up some playing time at designated hitter for J.D. Martinez or Fernando Martinez. It'll also raise Carlos Pena's value somewhat, but only if Wallace is forced to open on the DL.

Houston Astros 1B Brett Wallace (neck) left the game after injuring his neck Thursday, March 21.
Fantasy Tip: Wallace should be left for NL-only leagues and cavernous mixed formats because of the fact that the Astros plan to mix and match him with Carlos Pena at first base. Time is running out for him to deliver on the BA upside that he was thought to possess.

Houston Astros 1B Brett Wallace, who went 3-for-4 with a home run Tuesday, Feb. 26, put in extra work with hitting coach John Mallee that is showing in the results this spring. "The ball I hit to center was a changeup, and that was something we worked on, being able to stay on my legs and if it's not a fastball down the middle that I won't come out of them and I will stay back on them," Wallace said. "It's definitely something we worked on and it's encouraging and I just have to try to repeat it over and over."

Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said the team plans to give OF Chris Carter a "full year's worth" of at-bats this season, with him alternating between first base, left field and designated hitter. "We'll mix-and-match him with Brett Wallace and Carlos Pena," Luhnow said.
