Padres | Yangervis Solarte not playing

Mon, 23 May 2016 15:53:33 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Yangervis Solarte is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 23. 1B Brett Wallace is starting at third base and is batting cleanup against San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto.

Fantasy Tip: Solarte likely will move back and forth between second and third base now that he's back from the DL. He can contribute modestly across several categories after a solid season in San Diego in 2015. His multipositional eligibility plays well as depth in cavernous mixed and NL-only universes, too. Wallace has a .333 career average in 15 at-bats against Cueto and is a deep sleeper pick this evening.

Padres | Yangervis Solarte batting cleanup

Sun, 22 May 2016 12:57:45 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B/3B Yangervis Solarte will make his first start since April 9 against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Kenta Maeda on Sunday, May 22, starting at second base and batting fourth. His return to the lineup will bump OF Melvin Upton to fifth in the order, while 3B Brett Wallace drops down to sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Solarte drew a walk-off walk in the 11th inning of Saturday's win after missing more than a month with a strained hamstring. The Padres like batting the 28-year-old Venezuelan in the heart of the order, and he is eligible at second base in most leagues, making him a worthy waiver-wire add in all leagues in which he isn't already owned. Solarte isn't a great DFS play today given the matchup, but he will be down the road if he continues to bat cleanup.

Padres | Yangervis Solarte batting cleanup

Padres | Jon Jay, Brett Wallace sitting

Tue, 17 May 2016 16:09:21 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay and 1B Brett Wallace are not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants left-handed SP Madison Bumgarner Tuesday, May 17. OF Travis Jankowski is starting in center field and hitting ninth, while 3B Adam Rosales is at the hot corner and is batting sixth. Also, 1B Wil Myers moves to the leadoff spot and OF Melvin Upton Jr. is hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: We can't recommend Jankowski or Rosales as deep sleeper picks in daily formats while facing the MadBum. Myers loses a little daily value, as well, hitting leadoff without the opportunity to drive in as many runs. Upton is a more of a sleeper option if you're feeling lucky in a tough matchup.

Padres | Wil Myers out of lineup

Fri, 13 May 2016 14:56:46 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Wil Myers is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 13. 1B Brett Wallace is playing first base and is hitting cleanup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Junior Guerra. Also, SS Alexei Ramirez moves up into the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace's production has improved lately while playing every day (two home runs, five RBI this month), but he's still only hitting .226 this month. The matchup tonight isn't overwhelming, so Wallace has a decent shot to return value in daily formats again. Ramirez gains minimal value in daily games, too, but he has almost no power to speak of.

Padres | Brett Wallace cranks second homer

Wed, 11 May 2016 15:29:11 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Brett Wallace went 1-for-3 Wednesday, May 11, in the first game of a doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs. That one hit was a big one, as it went for a three-run homer. He also drew a walk.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace only has two home runs on the season now, but he continues to get steady at-bats in the cleanup spot, which could make him valuable in some formats. He's at least worth a flier in NL-only leagues, as he'll get a decent amount of opportunities to drive in runs. The former failed prospect was a colossal disappointment in Houston years ago, but seems to be finding new life in San Diego.

Padres | Brett Wallace sitting out Game 2

Wed, 11 May 2016 15:25:19 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Brett Wallace is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, May 11. 3B Adam Rosales draws the start at the hot corner and is hitting eighth against Cubs SP John Lackey.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace receives a breather after his game-winning three-run bomb in Game 1. Rosales is a low-end daily pick tonight, especially hitting so low in the batting order. He's hitting just .169 on the season with two home runs and six RBI in 59 at-bats.

Padres | Brett Wallace not starting

Wed, 11 May 2016 14:19:43 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Brett Wallace is not in the starting lineup for the second game of a doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, May 11. 2B Adam Rosales will start at third base, while 2B Jose Pirela will start at second base and is batting seventh against Cubs SP John Lackey.

Fantasy Tip: Pirela is back in the lineup despite going 0-for-5 in the first game of the doubleheader. He is hitting .200 since joining the Padres and should not be used in most fantasy leagues. Rosales has only two hits in his last 11 games and be avoided by owners.

Padres | Derek Norris in cleanup spot

Tue, 10 May 2016 14:19:06 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris is hitting cleanup against Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester Tuesday, May 10. 1B Brett Wallace is being dropped down to sixth in the order against the lefty.

Fantasy Tip: This setup is likely the result of facing a southpaw. Norris (.173/.214/.286) certainly hasn't performed like one worthy of the lineup position, but the Friars don't have many options. He's hit slightly better against lefties, but Lester is an above-average southpaw. Norris is strictly a contrarian pick in daily lineups tonight.

Padres | Brett Wallace sitting vs. southpaw

Mon, 09 May 2016 13:47:10 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Brett Wallace is not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs left-handed SP Jon Lester. INF Adam Rosales is starting at third base and batting eighth. C Derek Norris moves up to the cleanup spot.

Fantasy Tip: Rosales has only 10 hits in 58 at-bats (.172) and should be avoided in all fantasy formats against Lester, especially with weather threatening to postpone this one. Norris gains some daily intrigue but remains a sleeper catcher because of his rough start.
