Padres | Yonder Alonso going through activities

Mon, 25 May 2015 17:46:23 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (shoulder) will go through full baseball activities Monday, May 25, and Tuesday, May 26. The activities will include pregame ground balls and batting practice on the field. Alonso will start a rehab assignment Wednesday, May 27, at Class High-A Lake Elsinore.

Fantasy Tip: Alonso ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) can be stashed by owners in NL-only leagues, but he won't have much value in mixed leagues until he proves himself upon a return.

Padres | Yonder Alonso not close to return

Tue, 19 May 2015 16:41:52 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (shoulder) is "still a ways away" from a return, according to manager Bud Black Tuesday, May 19. Alonso's rotator cuff muscle is preventing him from participating in any baseball activities.

Fantasy Tip: Alonso ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) owned a batting average of .333 and an on-base percentage of .427 before being sidelined. Alonso has been regularly sidelined by injuries over the last couple seasons, but when he is healthy, he could have 10 home run, 10 stolen base potential.

Padres | Yonder Alonso has increased motion

Fri, 15 May 2015 04:48:25 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (shoulder) has increased his range of motion in his strained right shoulder, but there's no timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: Alonso ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is eligible to come back before the end of May, but it could be a bit longer before you see him in a lineup. If you can afford to keep him safely stashed away do it, but if not let Alonso go and pick up other similar-priced options.

Padres | Yonder Alonso to avoid surgery

Fri, 08 May 2015 18:18:54 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (shoulder) believes he will miss between two and four weeks, but he will not need surgery on his injured right shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Keep tabs on San Diego's lineup in the coming days. Will Venable ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) and Austin Hedges ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) could both become worthwhile sleeper options over the next few weeks as the Padres adjust their lineup to compensate for Alonso's absence.

Padres | Yonder Alonso headed to DL

Fri, 08 May 2015 16:24:48 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list with a deep bone bruise in his right shoulder Friday, May 8. OF Abraham Almonte is being called up from the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: The Padres can get creative now, as both Wil Myers ($4,300, 8.6% of cap), who is playing first base Friday night, and Derek Norris ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) can fill in for Alonso. That could mean more playing time for Will Venable ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) in center field and Austin Hedges ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) behind the plate.

Padres | Yonder Alonso to have MRI

Fri, 08 May 2015 06:47:56 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (shoulder) will have an MRI on his injured right shoulder Friday, May 8, and will miss at least one game. Alonso left the game Thursday, May 7, after a diving attempt in the field. Alonso was hit by a pitch in the same area and was forced to miss a couple of games last week due to soreness. Alonso won't play Friday, and 2B Yangervis Solarte will take his place.

Fantasy Tip: Solarte ($3,300, 6.6% of your cap) should already be on your radar as the utility man has a .300-2-17 line thus far. He's playing just about everyday anyway, so look to him as a low-end 2B option on FantasyScore.

Padres | Yonder Alonso back in lineup

Wed, 06 May 2015 09:58:40 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (back) is returning to the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Chris Heston Wednesday, May 6. Alonso is hitting fifth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Alonso ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) took the last two days off after being hit hard by a pitch in his back Sunday. While Alonso is hitting .333 (27-for-81) on the year, he only has one home run and nine RBI. He doesn't create a lot of excitement for those crafting their daily lineups today.

Padres | Yonder Alonso off vs. tough lefty

Mon, 04 May 2015 16:41:06 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 4. 2B Yangervis Solarte is starting at first base and hitting fifth in the batting order against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner.

Fantasy Tip: Solarte ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has had a fine season early in 2015. However, you'll likely want to avoid him at FantasyScore against Bumgarner. Solarte has done most of his damage this year hitting left-handed, which he won't do tonight. Right-handed, he's hitting only .118 (2-for-17) with one RBI.

Padres | Jedd Gyorko in lineup

Sat, 02 May 2015 16:23:14 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Jedd Gyorko is in the lineup Saturday, May 2, against the Colorado Rockies and SP Jorge De La Rosa. Gyorko will play second base with 3B Yangervis Solarte going to first base and 1B Yonder Alonso out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) has started 2015 with a pitiful .135 batting average but will get the start against a lefty due to his career .255 average against southpaws. Until Gyorko starts showing some signs of promise in 2015, he should be avoided on FantasyScore.

Padres | Yonder Alonso resting

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 11:09:41 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso is taking the day off Wednesday, April 29. 3B Yangervis Solarte is starting at first base and hitting second in the batting order against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel.

Fantasy Tip: Solarte ($2,800, 5.5% of cap) has likely been a popular FantasyScore selection of late, as he has gained frequent playing time over Jedd Gyorko at second base, and Solarte is hitting .321 (9-for-28) with two home runs and seven RBI since April 19. However, he's hitting only .200 (2-for-10) with one RBI against southpaws this year, and Keuchel has been very impressive in 2015. Stay away from Solarte today.
