Rays | Two Rays sitting

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 08:05:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson and SS Brad Miller are out of the lineup Thursday, June 16, with SS Tim Beckham hitting sixth and OF Jaff Decker hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Decker and Beckham aren't good DFS options against lefty James Paxton.

Rays | Brad Miller sitting vs. Astros

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 07:13:50 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller is not in the starting lineup Sunday, June 12. SS Tim Beckham is starting at shortstop and batting eighth against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: After a weak start, Miller has a .288/.336/.508 slash line since late April with 16 runs, five home runs, 16 RBI and four stolen bases. Those numbers play in most leagues, but he's likely best left to deep mixed and AL-only formats. Beckham is just 13-for-72 this season with a .609 OPS, so it is safe to fade him in all fantasy formats Sunday.

Rays | Two Rays sit

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 10:38:52 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 2B Steve Pearce (elbow) and SS Brad Miller are out of the lineup Wednesday, June 8. SS Taylor Motter is leading off, and 2B Tim Beckham is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Motter has a .182-2-6 line in 44 at-bats, but he has some upside at leadoff. He's a fringe DFS option against Archie Bradley. Beckham isn't much of a DFS option.

Rays | Three Rays regulars resting

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 15:19:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 3B Evan Longoria, OF Steven Souza and 1B Steve Pearce (elbow) are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 7. SS Taylor Motter is starting at third base and is hitting leadoff, OF Mikie Mahtook is in right field and is batting fifth, while SS Tim Beckham is at the 6 and is hitting seventh against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke. Also, OF Desmond Jennings moves up to hit third in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: It's a pretty ugly offensive arrangement for the Rays against a surging Greinke tonight. None of the Rays options are very attractive for DFS purposes, with Mahtook and Beckham especially unattractive hitting lower in the order. Greinke is absolutely worth paying up for in daily setups despite his poor home numbers this year.

Rays | Three Tampa regulars sitting

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 15:18:52 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce (elbow), OF Corey Dickerson and SS Brad Miller are not in the starting lineup Monday, June 6. SS Tim Beckham is starting at second base and is batting second, OF Desmond Jennings is starting in left field and hitting sixth, while SS Taylor Motter is at the 6 and is batting seventh against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce remains sidelined with an elbow issue, and his fantasy value may have already seen its peak in 2016. Beckham and Motter are light-hitting middle infielders that don't carry a ton of fantasy value. Beckham has the slight edge in daily intrigue today because he's hitting high in the order, but he remains more of a low-end desperation deep sleeper option in DFS.

Rays | Steve Pearce, Tim Beckham starting

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 11:18:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays INF Steve Pearce will bat cleanup and serve as the designated hitter against Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana Saturday, June 4, with OF Brandon Guyer receiving the day off. In addition, INF Tim Beckham will bat ninth and play second base in place of 2B Taylor Motter.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce is hitting .310 with five home runs and 11 RBI over the past four weeks and should be viewed as a viable option in all formats. Beckham is batting .185 through 54 at-bats and should be viewed as nothing more than desperation cap relief in daily fantasy games.

Rays | Brad Boxberger officially placed on DL

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 12:14:34 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Brad Boxberger (oblique) was placed on the didsbled list with a left oblique injury Wednesday, June 1. In a corresponding move, SS Tim Beckham was recalled.

Fantasy Tip: Alex Colome's tenure as the closer will have longer legs now, and Boxberger returns to being a stash candidate. However, at this stage of the season, it isn't out of the question that Colome doesn't allow Boxberger to reinstate himself as the ninth-inning man. Colome has 12 saves with a 1.23 ERA and 29 strikeouts through 22 innings, after all. Beckham doesn't project to receive enough at-bats to be anything more than a depth option in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues.

Rays | Tim Beckham sent to Durham

Wed, 25 May 2016 15:03:37 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Tim Beckham was optioned to Class AAA Durham Wednesday, May 25. In a corresponding move, RP Ryan Garton was recalled from Durham.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham has a .185/.241/.352 slash line through 58 plate appearances this season, and Brad Miller projects to handle shortstop going forward. However, it is a touch surprising given the lack of alternative options at the 6 behind Miller. Still, Beckham can be dropped in the majority of seasonal leagues since he was hardly fantasy relevant in the first place.

Rays | Desmond Jennings playing center field

Sun, 22 May 2016 07:18:21 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is batting seventh and playing center field against Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann Sunday, May 22. In addition, INF Tim Beckham is batting eighth and playing second base. OF Corey Dickerson is not in Sunday's lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings could receive a long look in center field after Kevin Kiermaier (hand) was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a fractured left hand. However, he is off to a slow start at the plate this season, batting just .186 with three home runs and 10 RBI through his first 102 at-bats. Beckham is just 8-for-46 (.174) and should be viewed as nothing more than a source of salary cap relief in daily fantasy games.

Rays | Three Rays sitting Wednesday

Wed, 18 May 2016 12:43:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller, OF Corey Dickerson and 1B Steve Pearce are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 18. SS Taylor Motter starts at the 6 and is hitting second, OF Brandon Guyer is the designated hitter and is hitting leadoff, while SS Tim Beckham is starting at second base and batting ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey.

Fantasy Tip: Motter hit his first big league homer last night but is a low-end middle infield option in daily setups, even while hitting in the two-hole. Beckham has a similar profile to Motter but is even less attractive at the bottom of the order. Guyer is your value pick of the trio, as he's been seeing starts on a regular basis and is hitting .313 with three home runs and nine RBI this month.
