Astros | Jason Castro not in lineup

Wed, 25 May 2016 15:51:09 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 25. C/OF Evan Gattis is doing the catching and is batting fifth against Baltimore Orioles SP Tyler Wilson. 1B Tyler White is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: In daily leagues tonight, Gattis is the no-brainer option over White. Gattis is 9-for-27 (.333) with three home runs and four RBI since being called back up from the minors. White has hit a paltry .196 (9-for-46) this month and continues to lose valuable playing to Marwin Gonzalez at first base.

Astros | Evan Gattis catching Tuesday

Thu, 19 May 2016 14:45:08 -0700

Houston Astros OF Evan Gattis is in the starting lineup Thursday, May 19, and serving as the catcher for the first time this season, as C Jason Castro (rest) is getting the night off. He's batting sixth opposite Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis has looked good at the plate since returning to the club earlier this week, so he'll draw a rare start at catcher to keep his bat in the lineup. While he has the difficult task of having to face Sale tonight, Gattis is 9-for-27 this year off lefties, making it possible he can keep it going.

Astros | Jason Castro back in the lineup

Fri, 13 May 2016 13:56:42 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro has been activated from the paternity list and is batting eighth against Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright Friday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Since the beginning of the 2014 season, Castro has a .215/.289/.365 slash line. View him as a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only formats.

Astros | Jason Castro returning Friday

Thu, 12 May 2016 14:42:24 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is expected to be activated from the paternity list Friday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Dating back to the beginning of the 2014 season, Castro has a .215/.289/.365 slash line. He is nothing more than a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only formats.

Astros | Jason Castro lands on paternity list

Tue, 10 May 2016 14:21:17 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro (personal) was placed on the paternity list Tuesday, May 10. C Max Stassi was recalled from Class AAA Fresno in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Castro was finally starting to get going, creeping his batting average nearly back up to the Mendoza Line this month. As for the promotion of Stassi, owners can look the other way here, as Castro will be back in a few days at most, though the youngster does have potential to eventually win the job. Erik Kratz is the more experienced backup and might see more at-bats anyway while Castro is away from the team.

Astros | Jason Castro not in lineup

Thu, 05 May 2016 14:31:40 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro (rest) is not in the batting order Thursday, May 5. C Erik Kratz will start in his place and bat eighth opposite Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley.

Fantasy Tip: With a lefty on the mound, Castro gets the night off, which is unfortunate for him, as his bat is finally coming to life, having at least one hit in six straight contests to get his average up above the Mendoza Line. Kratz, on the other hand, never has a live bat, hence why he's hitting 1-for-19 (.053) thus far this season. He can be left on every waiver wire imaginable.

Astros | Jason Castro on the upswing

Wed, 04 May 2016 23:55:26 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two walks, three runs scored and four RBIs Wednesday, May 4, against the Minnesota Twins. He tied a career high with the four RBIs. Over the past seven games he is hitting .444 with eight hits, two homers and five RBIs to raise his average from .114 to .210. "I made a change about a week ago or so and just tried to simplify things and not try to overdo it," Castro said. "So it's been nice to kind of see the results pretty much right away when I made the adjustment."

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners likely gave up on Castro after his super slow start and haven't reaped the rewards of his adjustment. He has re-emerged as a No. 2 receiver in AL-only fantasy leagues and DFS play.

Astros | Luis Valbuena, Jason Castro playing

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 11:02:44 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena and C Jason Castro are back in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Hahn Saturday, April 30, batting eighth and ninth, respectively.

Fantasy Tip: Valbuena is batting .193 with four RBI through 66 at-bats, while Castro is hitting just .128 with two RBI in 47 at-bats. Neither player should be viewed as a viable fantasy option.

Astros | Luis Valbuena, Jason Castro out

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 16:17:10 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena and C Jason Castro are not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Sean Manaea Friday, April 29. SS Marwin Gonzalez will start at third base and is batting eighth, while C Erik Kratz will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez has gone 4-for-15 with one home run and one RBI over the last seven days and is not a strong option in most leagues. Kratz is hitting only .069 this season and should be avoided in all leagues.

Astros | Preston Tucker, Jason Castro out

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 15:44:52 -0700

Houston Astros OF Preston Tucker and C Jason Castro are not in the starting lineup Monday, April 25. OF Evan Gattis is serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth, while C Erik Kratz is behind the plate and is hitting ninth against Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis is starting to see more of the starts as the DH over Tucker, which limits Tucker's value to cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. Gattis is hitting only .212 in the early going and hasn't gone deep yet in 32 at-bats, so he's a risky play against the strong Walker Monday night. Kratz should be ignored everywhere.
