Astros | Jason Castro out again

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 15:50:02 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is out of the lineup for the second straight day Wednesday, July 29. C Hank Conger gets the nod again and is hitting seventh against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards.

Fantasy Tip: With Castro struggling with the bat, Conger ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is seeing more playing time behind the plate. The switch-hitting catcher is only hitting .235 (27-for-115) with six home runs and 14 RBI, but that's been a big upgrade from Castro. Take note fantasy owners in deeper or two-catcher leagues if you're desperate.

Astros | Hank Conger behind the plate

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 13:33:08 -0700

Houston Astros C Hank Conger is starting at catcher and hitting seventh in the order Saturday, July 18, against the Texas Rangers and RHP Colby Lewis. C Jason Castro comes out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Conger ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is hitting .311 against righties this season, making him a strong option for those wanting to punt the catcher position and save some money on FantasyScore.

Astros | Hank Conger catching Saturday

Sat, 11 Jul 2015 11:51:57 -0700

Houston Astros C Hank Conger is batting seventh against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi Saturday, July 11. C Jason Castro is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Conger ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is batting .300 during the month of July and doubled in his only career at-bat against Odorizzi to date. FantasyScore owners searching for cap relief should consider him for their lineups.

Astros | Hank Conger starting behind the dish

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 13:17:59 -0700

Houston Astros C Hank Conger is starting behind the plate and batting seventh against Cleveland Indians SP Cody Anderson Thursday, July 9. C Jason Castro has been relegated to a bench role Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Through 48 plate appearances against righties, Conger ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) owns a .325/.438/.550 slash line with six runs and six RBI this season. While it is a small sample size, Conger checks out as a nice source of cap relief with upside for FantasyScore players Thursday. Castro ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is having his second consecutive down season after his breakout year in 2013. He is nothing more than a low-end catcher in AL-only, cavernous mixed and two-catcher formats.

Astros | Jason Castro in bad slump

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 16:00:16 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is batting .179 in 84 at-bats since May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) isn't in tonight's lineup, so you can't use him at FantasyScore anyway. For the foreseeable future, though, you should avoid him in your daily lineups.

Astros | Jason Castro not starting Tuesday

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 13:19:18 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is out of the starting lineup Tuesday, July 7, against the Cleveland Indians. C Hank Conger is the starting catcher.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) has a .200 average in the past week so it's no surprise to see him sit. Conger has no FantasyScore value.

Astros | Jason Castro not starting Saturday

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 09:34:03 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz Saturday, July 4. C Hank Conger will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) likely is resting Saturday and should return soon. Conger ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is hitting .230 in limited playing time this season and owners on FantasyScore should be able to find other options to use.

Astros | Jason Castro out vs. lefty

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 15:03:12 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is not in the lineup against Kansas City Royals left-handed SP Danny Duffy Tuesday, June 30. C Hank Conger is starting and hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Conger ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) should be avoided at FantasyScore, because he has just nine hits in 50 at-bats (.180) against southpaws this season from the right side of the plate.

Astros | Jason Castro returns to action

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 11:22:27 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is back in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Saturday, June 27, batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) returns to action after receiving a day off Friday, June 26. He has not fared well this month, hitting just .184 in 49 at-bats with two home runs and four RBIs. He should only be considered for FantasyScore usage if you need a low-end catcher for salary cap relief.

Astros | Jason Castro resting Friday

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 16:05:19 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 26. C Hank Conger draws the start and is hitting ninth against New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi.

Fantasy Tip: Conger ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will save you plenty of cap room for the rest of your FantasyScore roster. He's never a very attractive daily option, but he could pay off as a deep sleeper tonight in the Bronx. Conger hits better from the left side against righties (.303/.410/.545) with two of his four home runs, and he has the short porch in right field tonight in the Bronx.
