Astros | Evan Gattis catching Sunday

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 08:23:46 -0700

Houston Astros C Evan Gattis is starting behind the plate against Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy Sunday, June 26. C Jason Castro is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Although Gattis is batting just .176 during the month of June, he has homered six times and driven in 16 runs over 74 at-bats. He's worth using in DFS lineups if you don't mind the low batting average and high strikeout totals.

Astros | Evan Gattis sitting vs. the Angels

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 08:12:26 -0700

Houston Astros C Evan Gattis is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 22. C Jason Castro is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis has delivered in the counting stats with 23 runs, 11 home runs and 29 RBI through just 52 games, and while his .212 batting average leaves a lot to be desired, those numbers are excellent from the catcher slot. He should be owned and started in all formats where he can be utilized as a backstop. Castro is a weak option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues, but he's a potential low-priced flier for daily contests Wednesday.

Astros | Colby Rasmus, Jason Castro out

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 14:33:53 -0700

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus and C Jason Castro are not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Tuesday, June 21. C Evan Gattis will start at catcher, while 2B Danny Worth will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth. OF Jake Marisnick will start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Worth and Marisnick are both hitting under .212 so far this season and have six RBI combined. Owners in all leagues should be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Astros | Colby Rasmus, Jason Castro sitting out

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 09:21:45 -0700

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus and C Jason Castro are not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP Brandon Finnegan Sunday, June 19. 2B Jose Altuve will serve as the designated hitter, while C Evan Gattis will start at catcher. INF Danny Worth will start at second base and is batting sixth. OF Jake Marisnick will start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Worth and Marisnick have not done much at the plate this season and should be avoided in all fantasy leagues. Altuve is a must-start option in all leagues, while Gattis is not a great option at this point because he is on a cold streak.

Astros | No Evan Gattis vs. Cards

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 13:44:27 -0700

Houston Astros C Evan Gattis is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 15. C Jason Castro is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis has been cutting into Castro's start behind the plate, but Gattis is also serving as the designated hitter frequently, which hasn't completely eliminated Castro's playing time. Sub out Gattis where you can in seasonal leagues and view Castro as a low-end flier in daily contests against Wainwright Wednesday.

Astros | Evan Gattis to start at catcher

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 13:58:40 -0700

Houston Astros C Evan Gattis will start at catcher against St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia Tuesday, June 14, and is batting fifth in the lineup because the team does not have the designated hitter available. C Jason Castro will on the bench for the game.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis has struggled at the plate recently and has only one hit in his last 22 at-bats. He is still a solid option because of his power potential and is hitting .291 with five home runs against left-handed pitchers. Owners in daily fantasy leagues can consider using him as their catcher.

Astros | Jason Castro, Luis Valbuena sitting

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 13:49:23 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro and 3B Luis Valbuena are not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Cole Hamels Tuesday, June 7. C Evan Gattis is catching and is hitting cleanup, while INF Marwin Gonzalez is at the hot corner and is batting sixth. OF Jake Marisnick also draws into the starting lineup and is hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis is a lineup regular and is off to a great start this month, hitting .280 (7-for-25) with four home runs and nine RBI. Continue riding him in all fantasy formats, and he has become an elite catching option now that he has regained eligibility there. Gonzalez and Marisnick are both low-end daily picks this evening, with Gonzalez carrying a little more intrigue because of his power.

Astros | Tyler White, Carlos Gomez starting

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 09:41:31 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Tyler White and OF Carlos Gomez are back in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray Sunday, June 5. In addition, C Evan Gattis will bat fifth and start behind the plate, while OF Tony Kemp will bat ninth and play left field. C Jason Castro, 1B Marwin Gonzalez and OF Jake Marisnick are receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: White and Gomez have both struggled at the plate recently and should be avoided in all fantasy formats. White is 9-for-51 (.176) with two home runs, four RBI and 15 strikeouts over the past four weeks, while Gomez is just 4-for-35 with 19 strikeouts over the same stretch.

Astros | Jason Castro, Marwin Gonzalez playing

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 10:27:16 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro will bat eighth and start behind the plate against Oakland Athletics SP Kendall Graveman Saturday, June 4, with C/DH Evan Gattis batting fifth and serving as the designated hitter. In addition, 1B Tyler White will receive the day off, with INF Marwin Gonzalez batting seventh and playing first base.

Fantasy Tip: Following a disastrous April, Castro hit a respectable .268 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 71 at-bats during the month of May. That being said, he is just a .217 hitter over his last three MLB seasons and should probably be avoided unless you are looking for cap relief in DFS. Gonzalez is in the midst of a 6-for-31 funk at the plate over the last two weeks and isn't a recommended fantasy option this afternoon either.

Astros | Jason Castro still out sick

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 14:54:24 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro (illness) remains out of the lineup Friday, June 3. C Evan Gattis is doing the catching once again and is hitting fifth against Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Hahn. OF Tony Kemp is serving as the designated hitter and batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Castro could return any day now, so stay tuned. Gattis has a .226/.287/.419 line on the season with six home runs and 16 RBI but has hit well since his return from the minor leagues, and he's handling himself well behind the plate. He's a viable option for power in the majority of seasonal leagues and isn't a bad lineup fixture against Hahn while hitting fifth. Kemp is a speedster that doesn't carry much fantasy value in daily games, but he's a candidate in deep AL leagues for stolen base opportunities.
