Yankees | Aaron Hicks enters lineup

Wed, 04 May 2016 14:29:15 -0700

New York Yankees OF Aaron Hicks is starting in right field and batting seventh against Baltimore Orioles SP Tyler Wilson Wednesday, May 4. OF Carlos Beltran is serving as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks figures to benefit the most with more playing time with Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) on the DL with Beltran likely to serve as the main DH. Dustin Ackley could see more at-bats, too. Hicks is more known for his defense and has only two hits in 26 at-bats (.077) this year. Hicks and Ackley see a boost in fantasy value in the short term but are more of AL-only commodities for depth.

Yankees | Carlos Beltran not playing Sunday

Sun, 01 May 2016 15:56:37 -0700

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran is not in the lineup Sunday, May 1, against the Boston Red Sox. OF Aaron Hicks is batting seventh against Red Sox SP David Price.

Fantasy Tip: Beltran has a .250 batting average for his career against Price, so this appears to be just a normal night off for the veteran. Hicks has a .308 average against Price, but he also struck out six times in 13 at-bats so be a little wary.

Yankees | Aaron Hicks available Wednesday

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 17:23:16 -0700

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said OF Aaron Hicks (shoulder) is available to be used as a pinch hitter Wednesday, April 27, against the Texas Rangers.

Fantasy Tip: This means that Hicks has made enough progress to avoid a trip to the disabled list. He has not played since injuring his left shoulder while diving against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, April 22, but is not a great fantasy option.

Yankees | Aaron Hicks has shoulder inflammation

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 07:51:28 -0700

Updating previous reports, New York Yankees OF Aaron Hicks (shoulder) will be sidelined for at least four to five days because of inflammation in his left shoulder. The club will opt to play one man short rather than placing Hicks on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks likely would have received a good deal of playing time over the next few days against left-handed pitching if he had stayed healthy. Expect left-handed-hitting OFs Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury to both remain in the lineup due to Hicks' unavailability.

Yankees | Aaron Hicks to undergo MRI exam

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 12:01:06 -0700

New York Yankees OF Aaron Hicks (shoulder) is unavailable against the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday, April 23, because he is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam on his jammed left shoulder. He sustained the injury while diving for a ball in center field Friday, April 22, and was not expected to require any further tests initially. However, Hicks experienced pain after waking up Saturday, leading to the request for an MRI exam.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks is just 2-for-24 at the plate this season but had played well defensively and was used against left-handed pitchers, which cut into the playing time of OFs Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury. As long as Hicks is sidelined, Gardner and Ellsbury should revert back into everyday players.

Yankees | Aaron Hicks day-to-day

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 18:08:31 -0700

New York Yankees OF Aaron Hicks (shoulder) was removed from the game against the Tampa Bay Rays in the fourth inning Friday, April 22, due to left shoulder soreness. He is listed as day-to-day. OF Jacoby Ellsbury replaced Hicks in center field.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks was hurt while diving and no tests are scheduled, so the injury is believed to be minor. He should only be considered for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues because he has been seeing regular playing time whenever the Yankees face a southpaw, with either OF Brett Gardner or Ellsbury relegated to the bench.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury, Brett Gardner platooning?

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 16:10:47 -0700

New York Yankees OFs Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner, who both have hefty contracts, are essentially in a platoon with one of them sitting on a regular basis against left-handed pitchers to begin the year. The reason for this is the presence of OF Aaron Hicks, who has hit lefties well in his career. Hicks hit .307 against lefties in 2015 compared to .253 for Ellsbury and .276 for Gardner. However, Hicks has hit for 24 points less than Ellsbury and Gardner in his career against southpaws.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks not only has good numbers against lefties but has really impressed with his outfield defense so far. However, he's batting just .095 (2-for-21) and is a depth option in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. If this setup continues, both Gardner and Ellsbury's fantasy value takes a big hit.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury not in lineup

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 12:22:49 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury is not in the lineup Friday, April 22, versus Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore. OF Aaron Hicks is starting in his place in center field.

Fantasy Tip: Despite a productive day against left-handed pitcher Rich Hill on Thursday, manager Joe Girardi is choosing to sit Ellsbury opposite the fellow southpaw Moore. Hicks is out to a disastrous 2-for-21 (.095) start, however, and shouldn't be trotted out with any fantasy lineups at this point in time.

Yankees | Brett Gardner remains sidelined

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 12:25:59 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (neck) remains out of the lineup Thursday, April 21. OF Aaron Hicks is starting in left field and is batting seventh against Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill.

Fantasy Tip: Check back later to find out when Gardner might return from his injury. Hicks impressed with his arm last night but has just one hit in 20 at-bats (.050) to start the year with his new team. Hitting low in the Yanks order isn't ideal for Hicks in daily formats, either.

Yankees | Brett Gardner scratched vs. Oakland

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 13:39:27 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (neck) has been scratched with a stiff neck against the Oakland Athletics Wednesday, April 20. OF Jacoby Ellsbury is playing center field and leading off, and OF Aaron Hicks is playing left field and batting ninth against Athletics SP Kendall Graveman Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Gardner from your lineups where you can. Ellsbury was orginally expected to sit Wednesday, so he could be a sneaky option in daily contests because he'll likely be scarcely owned. Hicks could continue to see semi-regular at-bats with three veteran outfielders ahead of him on the depth chart all having lengthy injury histories. Hicks is a potential grab in deep mixed formats.
