White Sox | Brett Lawrie drives in three

Mon, 23 May 2016 20:01:30 -0700

Chicago White Sox 2B Brett Lawrie went 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI in the first game of a doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians Monday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie has recorded four hits and three RBI over his last three games before entering the second game of the doubleheader. He has seen a dip on his batting average this month but is still a decent option in deeper leagues.

White Sox | Avisail Garcia out for Game 1

Mon, 23 May 2016 11:04:50 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Avisail Garcia is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians Monday, May 23. 2B Brett Lawrie is serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth. 2B Carlos Sanchez gets a start at second base and is hitting seventh against Indians SP Michael Clevinger.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie hasn't been producing lately and is 2-for-23 (.087) with just one double and 10 strikeouts in his last six games. Both he and Sanchez are options to avoid in DFS action this afternoon.

White Sox | Brett Lawrie, Avisail Garcia sitting

Thu, 19 May 2016 14:51:33 -0700

Chicago White Sox 2B Brett Lawrie and OF Avisail Garcia are not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 19. 2B Carlos Sanchez is starting at the keystone and hitting second, while OF Jerry Sands is serving as the designated hitter and is batting seventh against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh. Also, SS Jimmy Rollins drops to sixth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie is hitless in his last three games and is batting .228 (13-for-57) this month after a hot April. If you have other options, consider benching him for a spell in traditional leagues. Sanchez has never hit over .250 in three years in the majors and is a low-end middle infield option. Sands has respectable power but is another low-end dart throw in DFS play.

White Sox | Brett Lawrie hits fifth long fly

Wed, 11 May 2016 15:24:24 -0700

Chicago White Sox 2B Brett Lawrie went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run during the White Sox's 6-5 loss to the Texas Rangers Wednesday, May 11.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie is having a nice start to 2016 with 18 runs, five home runs, 16 RBI, two stolen bases and a .278/.372/.476 slash line. A five-category return is well within reach, and Lawrie sets up nicely in the bottom half of a solid lineup. If there is still a buy-low window open, look to pounce. At this point, Lawrie is a viable starter in the majority of seasonal leagues.

White Sox | Brett Lawrie on a roll

Sun, 01 May 2016 14:20:44 -0700

Chicago White Sox 2B Brett Lawrie continued to haunt the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, May 01, going 3-for-3 while homering for the third straight game.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie is batting .290 with four home runs and 10 RBI on the season, so he can thank Camden Yards for playing a part in his recent power display. Still, his overall numbers are more than serviceable for a fantasy second baseman, and he now appears to be well on track to surpass last year's career high of 16 homers. He should remain in fantasy lineups when the White Sox begin a series at home against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.

White Sox | Brett Lawrie avoids arbitration

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 15:34:16 -0800

Chicago White Sox 2B Brett Lawrie avoided arbitration Thursday, Jan. 14, by agreeing on a one-year, $4.125 million deal.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie will likely be Chicago's starting second baseman this year, but he'll maintain third base eligibility, too. He was finally able to stay healthy over a full season and set career highs in home runs (16) and RBI (60) with the Oakland Athletics. He could best those numbers in a better hitting environment in Chicago with another healthy season.

White Sox | Brett Lawrie likely shifting to 2B

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 10:08:26 -0800

Chicago White Sox 3B Brett Lawrie is likely to shift to second base after the team acquired 3B Todd Frazier Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie's power would enhance his stature more at second base than at third base. The problem with him has always been durability. Lawrie is a midrange second baseman with upside if eligible in mixed leagues.

Athletics | Brett Lawrie traded to ChiSox

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 18:25:02 -0800

The Oakland Athletics have traded 3B Brett Lawrie to the Chicago White Sox, in exchange for Ps Zack Erwin and J.B. Wendelken.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie, who will turn 26 before the start of next season, became expendable after the A's acquired Jed Lowrie from the Houston Astros last month. Erwin is a 21-year-old left-hander who went 2-2 with a 1.34 ERA in 15 games (seven starts) at two minor league stops in 2015, while Wendelken is a 22-year-old right-handed reliever who went 6-2 with a 3.20 ERA in 39 games with Class AA Birmingham and Class AAA Charlotte.

White Sox | ChiSox acquire Brett Lawrie

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 18:15:27 -0800

The Chicago White Sox have acquired 3B Brett Lawrie from the Oakland Athletics, in exchange for Ps Zack Erwin and J.B. Wendelken.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie hit .260 with 16 home runs and 60 RBIs in 149 games for the A's last season and will finally bring stability to the hot corner for the ChiSox after several years of below-average performance at the position. The move to U.S. Cellular Field should aid his power numbers, although injuries have kept him from reaching his full potential. He should be selected in the middle rounds of AL-only and deep mixed leagues.

White Sox | Brett Lawrie headed to White Sox?

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 05:30:31 -0800

Oakland Athletics 2B Brett Lawrie is part of a deal nearly complete with the Chicago White Sox Wednesday, Dec. 9. The Athletics would receive two minor leaguers in return.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie's power would translate well in U.S. Cellular Field, and he would make a nice MI pickup later in traditional drafts.
