New York Mets 1B Ike Davis (calves) played in an intrasquad game without running Thursday, March 6, but said it's too soon for him to play in a spring game. He's been dealing with cranky calves. New York Mets manager Terry Collins said Wednesday, Feb. 12, that 1B Ike Davis will see plenty of at-bats during Grapefruit League spring training games. "I think it's very, very important to try to get him in midseason form when the season starts. A lot of guys leave spring training and have 50, 60 at-bats. I might get him 80 to 100 this spring just to make sure he's ready to go when we start," Collins said. Over the past three seasons, Davis has averaged 56.3 spring at-bats.
