Yankees | Ike Davis not starting vs. Rockies

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 13:07:16 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Ike Davis is not starting Tuesday, June 21, against the Colorado Rockies. 2B Rob Refsnyder is starting at first and will bat ninth against Rockies SP Chad Bettis.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like a normal night off for Davis. Refsnyder has eight hits in his last six games and seems to be in the Yankees' good graces. Despite his batting ninth, Refsnyder is a decent start in daily leagues and is getting valuable position strength with more games at first.

Yankees | Ike Davis to platoon at 1B

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 14:03:17 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Ike Davis, who was officially signed Monday, June 13, is expected to share time at first base with 2B Rob Refsnyder. 1B Mark Teixeira (knee) is out indefinitely.

Fantasy Tip: It seems like forever since Davis contributed at the major league level, but he hit just .229 with three home runs and 20 RBI last year with the Oakland Athletics. Expect him to face right-handers, against whom he's hit .251 in his career against with 69 of his career 81 homers against. With a short porch in right in the Bronx, that could make Davis viable in AL-only leagues and in the right matchups in daily setups.

Yankees | NYY agree to deal with Ike Davis

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 12:38:45 -0700

Free-agent 1B Ike Davis (Rangers) has agreed to terms on a major-league contract with the New York Yankees and is expected to report to the team soon, according to a source. Prior to his release on Sunday, June 12, Davis was hitting .268 with four homers and 17 RBI in 215 at-bats at Class AAA Round Rock.

Fantasy Tip: Davis really hasn't been fantasy-relevant since 2012, but his addition should address the gaping hole - against right-handers anyway - at first base for the Yankees. New York has been a revolving door of mostly ineffective and injured players at the position this season, as Mark Teixeira, Dustin Ackley and Chris Parmelee are out indefinitely. Davis is unlikely to be relevant outside of AL-only leagues when he does get promoted and will probably platoon with current everyday first baseman Rob Refsnyder.

Rangers | Ike Davis nursing knee sprain

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 22:40:33 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Ike Davis (knee) missed the Cactus League spring game Monday, March 14, as he is dealing with a mild sprain of the right knee. He is considered day to day.

Fantasy Tip: Davis is angling for a bench spot in Arlington, so he isn't worth much more than a roster spot in deeper AL-only fantasy leagues at this point.

Rangers | Texas has other options for LF

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 10:30:53 -0800

With Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) already feeling pain in his left knee this spring, the Rangers have alternatives in OFs Justin Ruggiano, Ryan Rua, Joey Gallo and James Jones. Another option is 1B Ike Davis, but he's played just two innings in the outfield in his career.

Fantasy Tip: As most everyone knows, Hamilton is a massive injury risk. Because of that, he's nothing more than a late-round stab in deep mixed leagues. The Rangers might have to get creative with all of their alternatives. Of that group, Gallo is the most attractive because of his monster power capabilities and third base eligibility.

Rangers | Ike Davis joining Texas

Sun, 14 Feb 2016 18:42:45 -0800

Free-agent 1B Ike Davis (Athletics) is expected to sign a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has been an all-or-nothing hitter throughout his career, and he isn't worth drafting unless he is in line to see regular at-bats.

Yankees | Ike Davis joining Yanks?

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 10:33:57 -0800

Free-agent 1B Ike Davis (Athletics) is expected to sign a minor league deal soon, and the New York Yankees are in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: Davis would represent an insurance policy at first base behind Mark Teixeira with Greg Bird expected to miss the entire season. Davis has some pop and would be intriguing with the short porch in right field at Yankee Stadium in AL-only leagues.

Brewers | Milwaukee seeking first baseman

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 10:21:48 -0800

Free-agent 1B Pedro Alvarez (Pirates), 1B Steve Pearce (Orioles), 1B Ike Davis (Athletics), 1B Chris Carter (Astros) and 1B/OF Daniel Nava (Rays) are of interest to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Whoever lands at first for Milwaukee will have some value, possibly hitting between Ryan Braun and Jonathan Lucroy.

Athletics | Ike Davis should be ready by spring

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 10:19:19 -0700

Oakland Athletics trainer Nick Paparesta said 1B Ike Davis (hip), who underwent season-ending hip surgery Thursday, Aug. 27, is expected to be ready by spring training.

Fantasy Tip: In 74 games for the A's, Davis hit .229 with three home runs and 20 RBIs. Mark Canha ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is expected to be the team's full-time first baseman for the remainder of the season and warrants consideration in AL-only and deep mixed leagues.

Athletics | Ike Davis' season over

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 16:17:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis (hip) has a torn hip labrum and will need to undergo surgery.

Fantasy Tip: You can drop Davis in all single-year formats. The season-ending injury basically cements regular playing time for Mark Canha ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) for the remainder of the season. He's still a sleeper pick on FantasyScore, and he's hit better against right-handers in 2015.
