Padres | Andrew Cashner making rehab start

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 14:11:10 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner (neck) will make a rehab start for Class A Lake Elsinore Tuesday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: Cashner could be close to rejoining the starting rotation, but he could be part of a six-man rotation when he returns. He's sporting a 4.75 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and only 6.1 strikeouts per nine innings, too, so he hasn't been attractive to owners in mixed leagues this season. You'll want to take a wait-and-see approach before turning to him again in those setups.

Padres | Andrew Cashner could join rotation

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 17:53:46 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner (neck) could be part of a six-man rotation when he returns from the disabled list, manager Andy Green said.

Fantasy Tip: Cashner was struggling before his injury, and he can be left on the waiver wire even after he returns.

Padres | Tyson Ross, Andrew Cashner throw

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 15:54:03 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) and SP Andrew Cashner (neck) threw bullpen sessions Tuesday, June 21. Ross is not expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list until after the All-Star break, while Cashner may not be ready when he is first eligible to be activated.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Cashner is closer to returning than Ross, but both are probably a few weeks away from pitching for the Padres again. Owners should continue to hold onto them if they have to roster space.

Padres | Andrew Cashner cleared to throw?

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 05:10:39 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner (shoulder) could begin a throwing program on Friday, June 17.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Cashner owners, considering he was in doubt a couple days ago. Cashner is still nowhere near ready to return, so keep him tucked away in deeper NL and mixed formats for the time being.

Padres | Andrew Cashner not throwing yet

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 19:09:45 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner (neck) has not yet been cleared to begin a throwing program.

Fantasy Tip: Although he was not off to a great start this year, Cashner should continue to be stashed in NL-only and deep mixed fantasy leagues if you can afford the roster space. It appears that the 29-year-old right-hander won't be eligible to return from the disabled list after the minimum 15 days, so expect Luis Perdomo to receive an extended look in the San Diego rotation.

Padres | Andrew Cashner improving

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 19:34:00 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner (neck) is feeling better and has better range of motion, manager Andy Green said Sunday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Cashner could be ready to come off the disabled list when eligible in about two weeks. However, he is having a lackluster season, and you should be able to find a better option, even in NL-only formats.

Padres | Luis Perdomo to remain in rotation

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 07:00:53 -0700

San Diego Padres P Luis Perdomo will remain in the starting rotation for now, as a result of SP Andrew Cashner (neck, back) landing on the 15-day disabled list. He struck out a career-high seven batters over 5 1/3 innings in relief of Cashner Friday, June 10, against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: Perdomo is 1-2 with a 9.50 ERA and a 2.28 WHIP in 17 appearances (two starts) this season, with 19 walks and 31 strikeouts in 36 innings. The 23-year-old rookie right-hander should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

Padres | Andrew Cashner placed on disabled list

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 11:28:42 -0700

The San Diego Padres have placed SP Andrew Cashner (neck, back) on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained neck. He left his start versus the Colorado Rockies Friday, June 10, after throwing only six pitches, because of tightness in his neck and upper back.

Fantasy Tip: Cashner is 3-5 with a 4.75 ERA through 11 starts, with 22 walks and 36 strikeouts over 53 innings. It is unknown if he will be sidelined for more than the minimum 15 days but he should be stashed in NL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.
