Houston Astros manager Bo Porter said RPs Jesse Crain, Chad Qualls and Matt Albers will be considered for closer this year, along with RP Joshua Fields. The team would ideally prefer to have one closer, but it may not be that way to start the year. Experience-wise, Qualls may have a leg up. Porter wants his closer to be able to induce weak groundballs, as well.

Houston Astros RPs Joshua Fields and Chia-Jen Lo have become the two options for saves in the team's closer-by-committee setup. "I'll fluctuate between (Lo and Fields) based on the workload previously leading up to that game," manager Bo Porter said. "But it's a good option to have both of those guys pitching well." Lo recorded his first major league save last Tuesday, and Fields notched his first save Aug. 5. Lo has been injury-prone in the minors, so Porter intends to use him anytime he's warming up in the bullpen.
Fantasy Tip: Fields is probably the better option if you're choosing between the two because the team might want to be cautious with Lo's workload. Other than that, it could be dead even for save chances. Both should be owned in cavernous mixed leagues.

Houston Astros manager Bo Porter said the team will use a closer-by-committee after they traded away RP Jose Veras.
Fantasy Tip: Jose Cisnero may be the front-runner for the majority of save chances now, but don't count out Wesley Wright or Joshua Fields. Cisnero should be your first target for those chasing saves, and Wright and Fields are consolation prizes in deep mixed leagues if you're desperate.

Houston Astros manager Bo Porter said RP Jose Cisnero can be trusted to pitch in pressure situations in the bullpen.
Fantasy Tip: This is an important development for Cisnero, since there's a chance Houston trades incumbent closer Jose Veras this summer. However, Cisnero is still behind the likes of Hector Ambriz, Wesley Wright and Joshua Fields for save opps if Veras is dealt.

The Houston Astros activated RP Joshua Fields (forearm) from the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 31, and placed SP Edgar G. Gonzalez (shoulder) on the 15-day DL with a right shoulder strain in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Fields could be in the mix for late-inning setup duties, but he, or the rest of the back end of the bullpen won't challenge Jose Veras for closing duties any time soon. Skipper Bo Porter is comfortable using Veras as the full-time closer for the time being.

Houston Astros RP Joshua Fields (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Quad Cities Friday, May 10, and he'll throw two innings.
Fantasy Tip: Fields is an intriguing bullpen arm for the future in Houston, but he'll need a full year of rehab likely before he's considered for the Astros' major league bullpen.
