The Houston Astros placed RP Anthony Bass (intercostal) on the 15-day disabled list with a right intercostal strain Wednesday, May 14, and recalled RP Josh Fields from Triple-A Oklahoma in a corresponding move. Bass' DL stint is backdated to May 11.
Fantasy Tip: Fields was in consideration for the closer role during the committee approach last month, but since then, Chad Qualls has taken over with a nice little run lately. Qualls should be owned in all leagues now that he has the job to himself for the time being.

Houston Astros RP Josh Fields has allowed 14 runs in his last five appearances spanning three innings.
Fantasy Tip: He appears to have blown his chance for the lion's share of save chances with his recent stint of futility. Chad Qualls appears to be the most-likely option in save chances.

Houston Astros manager Bo Porter said RP Josh Fields will not pitch in high-pressure innings for a while. The team will go with a combination of RPs Chad Qualls and Anthony Bass to close, for now.
Fantasy Tip: Qualls started the year as the favorite to close out games with Jesse Crain (shoulder) on the DL, but a rough start ended those hopes. He'll get another shot, along with fellow righty Bass. Qualls has more experience in the role and should be your first target on the waiver wire. Bass is a consolation prize. None of these options particularly stick out, however, so don't rule out Fields or even Raul Valdes usurping Qualls or Bass before Crain returns later this month.

Houston Astros RP Jesse Crain (shoulder) has developed bursitis, and his timetable for a return is no longer in early May. He will not be able to start throwing for another week to 10 days.
Fantasy Tip: Josh Fields should continue to see the majority of the save chances in the near future, with Chad Qualls as the primary backup option. If you've been stashing Crain, you'll have to wait a bit longer, but as this point he may not even be guaranteed the ninth-inning job when he returns.
