Indians | Lonnie Chisenhall cools off

Mon, 16 Jun 2014 19:36:45 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Lonnie Chisenhall was hitless in 10 at-bats in three games against the Boston Red Sox. Manager Terry Francona said Monday, June 16, that he didn't notice anything in particular about the way Boston's pitchers attacked Chisenhall. "I just think there were pitches they threw that he didn't hit that he's hit before," Francona said. "Except for Ted Williams and possibly George Brett, most guys don't go through the year and hit .400. That's just the way the game is."

Indians | Lonnie Chisenhall has monster game

Mon, 09 Jun 2014 21:10:28 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Lonnie Chisenhall did something Monday, June 9, against the Texas Rangers that no other Major League Baseball player has done since 1975 - he amassed five hits, three home runs and nine RBI in one game. He finished 5-for-5 with three homers and nine RBI in a 17-7 rout of the Rangers, matching a team record in RBI which was also accomplished by former OF Chris James back on May 4, 1991. He is the fourth player since 1920 (when MLB began tracking RBI) to amass five hits, three home runs and nine RBI in one game, and first since former Boston Red Sox 1B Fred Lynn did it in 1975.

Indians | Nick Swisher, Carlos Santana to DL

Tue, 27 May 2014 13:07:46 -0700

The Cleveland Indians placed OF Nick Swisher (knee) on the 15-day disabled list with a left knee hyperextension Tuesday, May 27, and also put C Carlos Santana (concussion) on the 7-day concussion DL. In corresponding moves, the club recalled INF Jesus Aguilar and C George Kottaras from Triple-A Columbus and designated RP Blake Wood for assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Lonnie Chisenhall, who has really been hitting well this year, should take over full time at third base with Santana sidelined. Even when Santana returns, Chisenhall is a nice bat to own if he's still available on your waiver wire. It's unknown how the Tribe will replace Swisher at first, but the most likely scenario is that Ryan Raburn will see the majority of starts there while sharing with Aguilar. Consider adding Raburn in AL-only leagues.

Indians | Lonnie Chisenhall more relaxed

Wed, 21 May 2014 13:47:06 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Lonnie Chisenhall is more relaxed at the plate this year. He went 2-for-5 Wednesday, May 21, to raise his average to .367 this year, and 23 of his 36 hits are to left or center field. With Chisenhall making strides this year, manager Terry Francona wants to find any way to get his bat into the lineup. Chisenhall has split time at third base and has taken fly balls in left field and made a pair of appearances at first base.

Indians | Lonnie Chisenhall trying to be more useful

Tue, 06 May 2014 18:10:16 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Lonnie Chisenhall has been taking ground balls at first base for the past week or so, and he also has headed to the outfield to track down fly balls during batting practice. "He's a pretty good athlete," manager Terry Francona said Tuesday, May 6. "I've seen him before just running around in the outfield. I think he likes it. I think it's a good idea. When you've got a left-handed hitter that can do multiple things, it can only enhance your career. There's no downside."

Fantasy Tip: There is no downside for fantasy owners, either. If Chisenhall could attain multiple eligibility, he would be that much more valuable to AL-only fantasy owners. He has already seen a slight rise in valuable because of his .368 average heading into play Tuesday.
