Cleveland Indians C Carlos Santana has looked out of place at third base during spring games and right now, 3B Lonnie Chisenhall and every other third baseman in camp looks much better than Santana on defense at the hot corner. Santana hasn't received a lot of opportunities there and when he has, he's looked stiff and uncomfortable.
Fantasy Tip: It doesn't look good for Santana gaining positional eligibility at third base if he keeps this up, but it's also still pretty early in camp.

The Cleveland Indians reached deals with P Austin Adams, 3B Lonnie Chisenhall, SP T.J. House, RP Colt Hynes, SP Corey Kluber, RP C.C. Lee and RP Bryan Shaw Tuesday, March 4. Each of the players have fewer than three years of service time. Terms of the deals were undisclosed.

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said Monday, Feb. 24, that 3B Lonnie Chisenhall has had a solid camp to this point.
Fantasy Tip: Chisenhall is sharing reps at third base with Carlos Santana, and that might continue into the season given Chisenhall's struggles against left-handed pitching. Chisenhall is worth a look in some AL-only fantasy leagues, but he needs to show offensive improvement to warrant a spot on mixed rosters.

Cleveland Indians C Carlos Santana worked exclusively as an infielder in the team's first full-squad workout Monday, Feb. 17. He lined up with 3B Lonnie Chisenhall at third base, taking grounder balls from manager Terry Francona. "From the minute we have laid eyes on him, he has been nothing but diligent," Francona said. "I mean, staying at it to the point where he's taking a weird-sided, crazy super ball back to his room at night to work on his side to side. He has worked so hard just to get to this point."

Cleveland Indians C Carlos Santana worked closely with former big league 3B Fernando Tatis in the Dominican Republic over the winter, logging 30 games in winter ball for Escogido. This spring, Santana will continue to train at third base, and he will also serve as the backup catcher behind C Yan Gomes. Manager Terry Francona, general manager Chris Antonetti and Santana had a meeting Wednesday, Feb. 12, to discuss a plan for Santana's spring. The Indians want the switch-hitting Santana in the lineup on a regular basis, and if he is not the regular third baseman, they'd like him to hit against left-handed pitching, since 3B Lonnie Chisenhall struggled mightily against southpaws in 2013.

Cleveland Indians 1B Jesus Aguilar, OF Michael Brantley, OF Matt Carson, 3B Lonnie Chisenhall, OF Jeff Francoeur, 2B Jason Kipnis, 1B Bryan LaHair, SS Francisco Lindor, P Carlos Moncrief and INF Jose X. Ramirez are among the early arrivals at the team's spring training facility.

Cleveland Indians C Carlos Santana is still adjusting to third base in the Dominican Republic Winter League, and he's hitting .350 (7-for-20) with three errors in five games so far. Two of his errors came in one game. "It's still very early in the process," said general manager Chris Antonetti. "Sarbie has been down there for a few days with Carlos. He's made a couple of errors, but so far the reports have been encouraging." Santana is expected to be the Indians' main designated hitter next season. Cleveland would prefer if 3B Lonnie Chisenhall won the third base job in spring training.

Third base is a position seen as a need for the Cleveland Indians, although general manager Chris Antonetti and manager Terry Francona each raved about the potential of 3B Lonnie Chisenhall Monday, Oct. 7.
Fantasy Tip: Chisenhall is serviceable at the plate against right-handed pitching, but abysmal against left-handed starters. If the team decides they want a full-time option at the hot corner, Chisenhall might be moved. His fantasy outlook is murky at best right now.

The Cleveland Indians designated 3B Mark Reynolds for assignment Thursday, Aug. 8. Reynolds signed a one-year, $6 million deal last winter but was hitting just .215 with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs with 123 strikeouts. He had only two home runs since May.
Fantasy Tip: Reynolds has been an all-or-nothing player for much of his career, and after a hot start he faded quickly for the Tribe. He could latch on with another team, though, so don't forget about him entirely. This cements Lonnie Chisenhall's status as the club's everyday third baseman.

The Cleveland Indians are interested in trading for Chicago Cubs SP Matt Garza but are not willing to include 3B Lonnie Chisenhall in the trade. The team still believes Chisenhall will be a good player in the future.
