Atlanta Braves SP Casey Kelly is in line for another start against the Miami Marlins Saturday, May 28, according to interim manager Brian Snitker. Kelly allowed seven hits and three runs in five innings in his first start against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Fantasy Tip: Kelly is a few years removed from Tommy John surgery and posted a 7.94 ERA and 1.94 WHIP in three outings (two starts) for the San Diego Padres last season. He'll likely be a work in progress if he sticks in Atlanta's rotation for the long term, so he's merely one to watch in mixed leagues for now.

Atlanta Braves SP Casey Kelly will start Sunday, May 22, against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Fantasy Tip: The former prime prospect has bounced around in recent years, but he has been solid at Class AAA Gwinnett with a 2.63 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP in seven outings (five starts). He has walked 20 batters in 37 2/3 innings, but his WHIP is still very good because he's missing bats. He's not a real solid streamer in DFS, and it's best to take a wait-and-see approach.

Atlanta Braves P Casey Kelly is likely to receive the start against the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday, May 22. P John Gant had been under consideration to start before he was needed for a relief appearance against the Thursday, May 19.
Fantasy Tip: Kelly, a former first-round draft choice of the Boston Red Sox, went 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA in seven appearances (five starts) for Class AAA Gwinnett, with 20 walks and 29 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed one run on two hits over three innings in his only MLB appearance this season but isn't a solid fantasy option at this point, despite the Phils' offensive struggles.

Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez was optioned to Class AAA Gwinnett Wednesday, April 20, and the Braves recalled P Casey Kelly from Gwinnett in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Perez had a 5.11 ERA in three starts as a long reliever/swing man for the Braves. He can be dropped wherever he was owned. Kelly is likely to assume the long relief role for Atlanta, but he has no fantasy value at this time.

The San Diego Padres have acquired C Christian Bethancourt from the Atlanta Braves, in exchange for SP Casey Kelly and C Ricardo Rodriguez.
Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt is expected to compete for the backup catching job in San Diego behind Derek Norris, so he won't have much value in any fantasy format. The 24-year-old former prospect struggled both offensively and defensively in 2015, batting .200 with two home runs and 12 RBIs while allowing eight passed balls.

Updating a previous report, the Atlanta Braves have traded C Christian Bethancourt to the San Diego Padres, in exchange for SP Casey Kelly and C Ricardo Rodriguez.
Fantasy Tip: The Braves are expected to use a catching tandem of A.J. Pierzynski and Tyler Flowers in 2016, which made the 24-year-old Bethancourt expendable. Kelly is a 26-year-old right-hander who has largely struggled since undergoing Tommy John surgery two years ago. The former 2008 first-round pick went 0-3 with a 7.94 ERA in three MLB appearances last season and was 2-10 with a 5.16 ERA in 31 games for Class AA San Antonio and Class AAA El Paso. Rodriguez is a 17-year-old catcher who hit .266 with two home runs and 15 RBIs in 30 games with three different Rookie-level clubs in 2015. None of these players is expected to be a fantasy factor in 2016.

San Diego Padres SP Casey Kelly will start for the first time in three years Friday, Sept. 25, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Fantasy Tip: Kelly ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) was a highly-ranked prospect before an elbow injury derailed his career. He will have a chance to prove he deserves a spot in the rotation next year, but he is a shot-in-the-dark play at FantasyScore in his first start back.
