Dodgers | Dee Gordon off to strong start

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 06:13:32 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Dee Gordon leads the majors with 10 steals in his first 13 games. He's also hitting .404 in 47 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Now might be a good time to sell high for a proven commodity. Gordon could continue his base-stealing tear. However, he has yet to prove that he can sustain a high average in the bigs.

Dodgers | Dee Gordon must hit lefties to earn everyday role

Fri, 11 Apr 2014 10:15:30 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Dee Gordon, who is hitting .400 (2-for-5) against lefties this year, must keep that up if he's to become the everyday starting second baseman instead of being involved in a platoon. The Dodgers like having him atop the lineup in front of OF Yasiel Puig.

Dodgers | Dee Gordon starts at 2B

Sat, 22 Mar 2014 20:21:02 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Dee Gordon made the start at second base for the second regular season game Sunday, March 23, against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Australia.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon was held out of the lineup in the opener in favor of Justin Turner. The two will work in a platoon for manager Don Mattingly, decreasing the fantasy appeal of both.

Dodgers | Justin Turner, Dee Gordon to platoon

Fri, 21 Mar 2014 05:45:10 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Justin Turner and 2B Dee Gordon will platoon at second base to begin the season.

Fantasy Tip: Alexander Guerrero will be sent down but still has some value in NL-only leagues. Gordon is the one with value in this platoon with his lights-out speed, but his playing time will dictate if he's worth owning in mixed leagues. Turner has nominal NL-only value.

Dodgers | Dee Gordon mentally prepared as candidate for 2B

Tue, 18 Mar 2014 12:37:39 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Dee Gordon appears to be in line for the starting second base duties when the team plays a two-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Australia this weekend after a solid spring performance. Gordon hit .286 with four triples and nine steals without being caught in camp. Gordon could platoon with 2B Chone Figgins, with Gordon facing right-handers, according to manager Don Mattingly.

"My mindset now is to be the best player I can be for the Dodgers. It's not all about me. I'm definitely mentally tougher than I was. I'm not going to sit here and whine, say I got treated wrong. I'm going to adapt to the situation and be a better player." 2B Alexander Guerrero is now expected to start the year in the minors as he continues to make the shift from shortstop to second base.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is a post-hype prospect that is a real sleeper candidate in mixed and NL-only drafts. Folks will start to catch on that Guerrero was a bit overvalued, at least early this year. If he can improve on his on-base percentage adjustments in the minors last year and make some more contact, Gordon can be a poor-man's Billy Hamilton.

Dodgers | Dee Gordon winning 2B competition?

Mon, 10 Mar 2014 12:11:55 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Dee Gordon is traveling with the team tomorrow and 2B Alexander Guerrero is not, which could be a sign that Gordon is winning the competition to start at second base.

Fantasy Tip: With everyday playing time Gordon could be a real sleeper, at least in NL-only leagues. He'll need to make better contact and take more walks, though, but his speed remains his best asset. Guerrero is a huge risk in deep mixed leagues, especially since he took the entire year off in 2013.

Dodgers | Alexander Guerrero struggling

Fri, 28 Feb 2014 15:30:46 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Alexander Guerrero is struggling with the defensive switch from shortstop to second base. The team prefers to use either Guerrero or 2B Dee Gordon at the keystone because they are both on the active roster.

Gordon is more athletic and has added some muscle, but Guerrero has a broader body and uppercut swing. Guerrero has yet to show smoothness in the lower body as was expected.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is clearly superior defensively than Guerrero right now, and if Guerrero doesn't impress with the stick, Gordon could win the job on opening day. Gordon is a nice little sleeper in NL-only leagues.

Dodgers | Open competition at 2B

Fri, 28 Feb 2014 08:36:24 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said the starting second base job is up in the air between 2Bs Alexander Guerrero, Dee Gordon, Chone Figgins and Justin Turner.

Fantasy Tip: This might just be coach speak by Mattingly. All along it's been expected that Guerrero is the favorite for the job. That could change with a poor spring performance, however. Guerrero is risky because we don't know much about him. In mixed leagues, he's safer as middle infield insurance.
