Twins | Ricky Nolasco not guaranteed a spot

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 11:57:50 -0800

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco is not guaranteed a spot in the starting rotation to open the season, according to manager Paul Molitor. Molitor said SP Tyler Duffey "has a really good chance" to crack the rotation. SP Tommy Milone is a player that will battle with Nolasco for a job, and RP Trevor May will receive a look, as well. SP Jose Berrios will receive a look and could become a rotation option sometime this season.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco has posted ERAs over 5.00 each of the last two seasons and pitched only 37 1/3 innings in 2015 because of injury. It's a stretch to think he can help many fantasy owners outside of deep AL-only leagues if he wins a rotation spot. Duffey, despite a lack of pitch speed, can generate strikeouts with his diverse arsenal. He's not a bad gamble in deep mixed leagues in a pitcher's park if he wins a job.

Twins | Tommy Milone avoids arbitration

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 17:19:25 -0800

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone has avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal worth $4.5 million.

Fantasy Tip: Milone went 9-5 with a 3.92 ERA in 24 games (23 starts) for Minnesota last season and is a back-of-the-rotation option for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues. However, his 6.4 K/9 makes him an unattractive option in FantasyScore.

Twins | Tommy Milone starting against Cleveland

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 13:14:30 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone is starting against the Cleveland Indians Monday, Sept. 28, in place of SP Phil Hughes (illness).

Fantasy Tip: Milone ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) owns a 5.72 ERA through 11 appearances in the second half with an unattractive 6.6 K/9. FantasyScore players should view him as nothing more than a contrarian flier for contests Monday.

Twins | Phil Hughes scratched from start

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 13:08:28 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes (illness) will not start against the Cleveland Indians Monday, Sept. 28. SP Tommy Milone will start in place of Hughes against Cleveland Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Hughes ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Monday, and there is no telling what is next for him. View him as a desperation hold in seasonal leagues at this stage of the game. Milone ($5,600, 11.2% of cap), similarly, isn't a strong option for FantasyScore players Monday. He owns a 5.72 ERA through 11 appearances in the second half.

Twins | Tommy Milone to throw Saturday

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 18:03:45 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone (shoulder) is scheduled to throw 20 to 30 pitches during a bullpen session Saturday, Sept. 26. He hopes to return to action before the end of the regular season but he is unsure what role he would be used in.

Fantasy Tip: Milone ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) has been sidelined recently due to shoulder fatigue. He is unlikely to have much of an impact in FantasyScore again this season, especially if the Twins decide to use him out of the bullpen.

Twins | Short outing for Tommy Milone

Sat, 12 Sep 2015 20:08:13 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone had his second-shortest outing of the season, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Chicago White Sox Saturday, Sept. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Milone ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has been inconsistent all year, and he followed two strong outings with a dud Saturday. He comes with some risk, but he could be worth a look as a low-priced sleeper at FantasyScore if the matchup is right.

Twins | Tommy Milone set for Thursday

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 19:49:31 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone remains on track to make his scheduled start Thursday, Aug. 27, against the Tampa Bay Bays. He threw a light bullpen session Tuesday, Aug. 25, after working in the 12th inning Sunday, Aug. 23, for his first career save.

Fantasy Tip: Milone ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) was needed out of the bullpen, but it isn't a role you should get used to seeing him. FantasyScore players might want to shy away, though, as he could be slightly fatigued and out of sorts given the change to his routine.

Twins | Tommy Milone to throw in bullpen

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 23:18:49 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone (elbow) will throw in the bullpen Thursday, Aug. 13, as he makes his way back from a strained left elbow. If he makes it through without any setbacks he will come off the 15-day disabled list when he is eligible Monday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Milone might return to the team's rotation, but avoid him in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in a full start without any setbacks.

Twins | Tommy Milone expected to return soon

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 09:03:09 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone (elbow) was pain-free after a throwing session Thursday, Aug. 6, and the Twins are hoping he will be ready to return when he's eligible to come off the disabled list Aug. 16.

Fantasy Tip: The left-handed throwing Milone ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) allowed 13 earned runs in 14 2/3 innings in his last three outings before going on the DL, but before that he was pretty solid for a nice stretch. He's expected to return around Aug. 16 and should jump right back into the rotation. There is reason to continue holding him in deep mixed leagues.

Twins | Tommy Milone started throwing

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 15:12:03 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone (elbow) started a throwing program Thursday, Aug. 6. Everything went well, according to assistant general manager Rob Antony.

Fantasy Tip: Milone ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) had allowed at least four earned runs in three consecutive starts before landing on the disabled list. Milone had been on a roll with no more than two earned runs allowed in his previous seven starts, but FantasyScore owners should allow Milone to prove himself upon returning, before they invest.
