Twins | Tommy Milone may not make next start

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 17:37:57 -0700

Minnesota Twins manager Paul Molitor is uncertain if SP Tommy Milone will make his next scheduled start versus the Oakland Athletics Tuesday, July 5, after he turned in a disappointing performance against the Chicago White Sox Thursday, June 30. "Haven't really gone there yet in my mind," Molitor said.

Fantasy Tip: Milone allowed five runs on nine hits over 3 1/3 innings versus the ChiSox Thursday, with one walk and three strikeouts. If the 29-year-old left-hander is dropped from the rotation, the Twins could turn to SP Jose Berrios, who came close to tossing a no-hitter for Class AAA Rochester in his most recent outing. Milone now possesses a 6.23 ERA through seven appearances (six starts) this year and is not worth owning outside of deep AL-only formats.

Twins | Short outing for Tommy Milone

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 19:37:14 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone made his first start since April 25, allowing four runs, one earned, on six hits while walking two and striking out one over 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the New York Yankees Friday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: Milone is sporting a 5.33 ERA, and despite his return to the rotation, he can be left on waivers in all formats right now.

Twins | Tommy Milone back in rotation

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 07:36:05 -0700

The Minnesota Twins have recalled SP Tommy Milone from Class AAA Rochester. He will fill the starting rotation slot vacated by SP Pat Dean, who was optioned to Rochester.

Fantasy Tip: Milone was 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA at the MLB level earlier this season but went 4-0 with a 1.66 ERA in seven appearances for Rochester, with four walks and 41 strikeouts over 48 2/3 innings. Milone credited his success in the minors to being more aggressive and throwing more strikes rather than nibbling at the corners of the plate. He's worth rostering in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Twins | Tommy Milone placed on waivers

Thu, 05 May 2016 17:48:09 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone was placed on waivers Thursday, May 5, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Milone was demoted to the bullpen last week after posting a 5.79 ERA and going winless in his first four starts. The Twins might have been willing to give him more time, but they needed to make room for Ervin Santana, who is expected to start Saturday. Kyle Gibson is reportedly making progress as he returns from a shoulder injury and could make it back as soon as next week.

Twins | Tommy Milone out, Alex Meyer in

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 14:32:13 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone is moving to the bullpen, and SP Alex Meyer will make the start in Milone's place Tuesday, May 3.

Fantasy Tip: Milone is a soft tosser who had a 5.40 ERA and only 17 strikeouts in 20 innings over his four starts. He can be left to the waiver wire outside of maybe deep AL leagues. Meyer will be making his first major league start against the Astros Tuesday. He sported a 5.28 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and struck out 9.8 hitters per nine in the minors last year. Meyer's stay in the rotation may be brief, though, and while he has strikeout upside, he's strictly a wait-and-see option in deeper mixed leagues for now.

Twins | Ervin Santana to start Friday

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 19:48:32 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana had his next outing moved up to Friday, April 8, against the Kansas City Royals, because his opening day start was cut short due to rain. SP Tommy Milone will start Saturday, April 9, with SP Ricky Nolasco pitching Sunday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: This is welcome news to fantasy owners who have Santana in seasonal leagues with weekly lineup changes. He threw 39 pitches while allowing two hits and two walks over two scoreless innings versus the Baltimore Orioles Monday, April 4.

Twins | Tommy Milone fires six solid

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 17:35:55 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone was solid Tuesday, March 29, against the Boston Red Sox, firing six innings of two-run ball, scattering five hits and recording three strikeouts compared to two walks.

Fantasy Tip: This is about what you'll hope for if you have Milone on your fantasy squad, as he doesn't really provide more than the statline he posted in today's spring training outing. Even so, he can still be a fine cheap source for ERA and quality starts. He won't rack up too many strikeouts, but he's someone that can minimize damage and wind up with a respectable win-loss record. In AL-leagues and deep mixed formats, that would make him an asset.

Twins | Tommy Milone makes rotation

Sun, 27 Mar 2016 10:38:19 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone has made the starting rotation and will make his first start against the Kansas City Royals Friday, April 8.

Fantasy Tip: Milone has pitched well in four spring training games and has a 2.40 ERA during that span. Milone could be an option on deeper AL-only leagues but probably can be avoided in most leagues.

Twins | Tommy Milone shines Monday

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 13:46:00 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone had four scoreless innings in his Grapefruit League start Monday, March 14, as he bids to become a part of the opening day starting rotation. Milone allowed just one hit in his four innings.

Fantasy Tip: Milone could open in the bullpen or in the minors, but he could be worth a look on waivers at some point during the year for some spot starts if he makes his way into the rotation.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco not guaranteed a spot

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 11:57:50 -0800

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco is not guaranteed a spot in the starting rotation to open the season, according to manager Paul Molitor. Molitor said SP Tyler Duffey "has a really good chance" to crack the rotation. SP Tommy Milone is a player that will battle with Nolasco for a job, and RP Trevor May will receive a look, as well. SP Jose Berrios will receive a look and could become a rotation option sometime this season.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco has posted ERAs over 5.00 each of the last two seasons and pitched only 37 1/3 innings in 2015 because of injury. It's a stretch to think he can help many fantasy owners outside of deep AL-only leagues if he wins a rotation spot. Duffey, despite a lack of pitch speed, can generate strikeouts with his diverse arsenal. He's not a bad gamble in deep mixed leagues in a pitcher's park if he wins a job.
