Tigers | Anthony Gose the favorite in CF?

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 15:06:18 -0800

Detroit Tigers OF Anthony Gose could be the favorite to start in center field this year over OF Rajai Davis, but the Tigers are likely to go with a platoon at the position. Gose must prove he can hit left-handers (career .208/.246/.267 slash line against southpaws) to have the everyday role. Davis hit .282/.320/.401 last year and has stolen at least 30 bases in every year since 2009.

Fantasy Tip: Because Gose and Davis will likely cannabilize each other's playing time, at least to start the season, they're both no more than fourth or fifth outfielders in deep mixed leagues for their stolen base abilities. If one of them secures a job outright, though, we'll likely see their draft stock rise as a late-round SB target.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion returning, Anthony Gose out

Fri, 15 Aug 2014 11:26:20 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Anthony Gose will be optioned to Triple-A Buffalo Friday, Aug. 15, to make room for 1B Edwin Encarnacion's (quadriceps) return from the disabled list. General manager Alex Anthopoulos confirmed that Encarnacion will be in the lineup against the Chicago White Sox Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Encarnacion's return will definitely be welcomed by all of his owners. Get him back into your lineups immediately. Juan Francisco, who has struggled mightily recently, will now find it even harder to find playing time. He could be downgraded to a platoon option at third base with Danny Valencia.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista has hamstring strain

Mon, 23 Jun 2014 12:47:00 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (hamstring) has been diagnosed with a hamstring strain but should be able to return in the near future.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista probably will miss a few games, but it is not known if he will need to be placed on the 15-day disabled list. Anthony Gose and Kevin Pillar likely would see more time in the outfield if Bautista does go on disabled list. Gose could be an option in deeper mixed leagues while Pillar likely would only be an option in AL-only leagues.
