St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright is prepared to start a potential Game 5 of the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, Oct. 9, but the team is also readying SP Lance Lynn for the start because of concerns about Wainwright's health. Wainwright felt fine after a side session Monday, Oct. 6, but there have been concerns about his right arm after he labored through his outing in Game 1. He gave up six runs and 11 hits in just 4 1/3 innings, his shortest start of the year. "He's just been grinding," manager Mike Matheny said. "And when you've been grinding, there are just days where you can't get it right. He was having trouble that Game 1. He's thrown a lot of innings. He's had a lot of work. But that's what your ace does." No pitcher in baseball has thrown more innings since the start of 2013 than Wainwright.
