Cardinals | Lance Lynn set for bullpen

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 15:41:40 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn (elbow) is expected to throw a bullpen session soon, according to manager Mike Matheny.

Fantasy Tip: Lynn will miss the rest of the season but should be ready to pitch again in 2017. However, fantasy owners won't find a ton to like, as his control was eroding before his injury. Lynn will be nothing more than a late-round flier in deeper leagues in 2017 spring drafts.

Cardinals | Lance Lynn has serious surgery

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 15:06:30 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn (elbow) had emergency Tommy John surgery Tuesday, Nov. 10, to fix a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow. He also had the ulnar nerve transposed and bone chips removed during the procedure. Lynn went 12-11 with a 3.03 ERA in 2015 and had three straight seasons of 30-plus starts.

Fantasy Tip: This is a big blow to St. Louis' rotation entering the 2016 season, as Lynn will miss all of next year. You can obviously ignore Lynn for the 2016 season. The biggest beneficiary will likely be young prospect Marco Gonzales, with Adam Wainwright a question mark after missing most of the 2015 season and John Lackey a free agent. Gonzales is certainly worth considering in the late rounds of fantasy drafts.

Cardinals | Lance Lynn likely to start Game 4

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 11:30:13 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn is still expected to start Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the Chicago Cubs Tuesday, Oct. 13, even though he threw an inning in relief during Game 2 Saturday, Oct. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Manager Mike Matheny hinted that Tyler Lyons ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) could make the start if Lynn ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) does not pitch in Game 4. John Lackey ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) could also be used on short rest but it is unlikely that Adam Wainwright is capable of throwing more than three innings at this point.

Cardinals | St. Louis announces NLDS rotation

Thu, 08 Oct 2015 12:04:57 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SPs Jaime Garcia, Michael Wacha and Lance Lynn will pitch Game 2 through Game 4, respectively, against the Chicago Cubs in the National League Division Series.

Fantasy Tip: Wacha ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) and Lynn ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) both stumbled into the playoffs. Wacha posted a 7.88 ERA while allowing a .962 OPS to opposing hitters through his five September starts, and Lynn has allowed 13 runs over 27 2/3 innings over his six starts in September. Garcia ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) posted a more respectable 3.44 ERA through his six September outings, and all three are worth considering as No. 2 starting pitcher options at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Lance Lynn bad lately

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 15:25:28 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn walked six and gave up three earned runs in just 3 1/3 innings in his last start Sept. 18 against the Chicago Cubs. Before that he allowed three runs on four hits and three walks in six innings to the Cincinnati Reds, who he faces Wednesday, Sept. 23. Lynn lasted only 2 1/3 innings in the start before the Reds in a 9-0 loss to the Cubs. His ERA is 9.26 in the month of September, and hitters are batting .309 against him in August and .313 with a .441 on-base percentage in September. His strikeout-to-walk ratio this month is a poor 0.64 after it was 3.89 back in July.

Fantasy Tip: Facing the Reds again Wednesday, Lynn ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) probably won't be a popular pick on FantasyScore because of his recent struggles, and for good reason. He's nothing more than a contrarian play tonight, but on the bright side the Reds lineup is really hurting to close out the season.

Cardinals | Lance Lynn struggles Friday

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 19:03:04 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn allowed three runs on four hits over 3 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Chicago Cubs Friday, Sept. 18, with six walks and two strikeouts. Over his last three starts, he is 0-2 with a 9.26 ERA, with 12 runs, 15 hits and 11 walks given up over 11 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: This is not the kind of stretch Lynn ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) was hoping to have as the regular season winds down. He is scheduled to make his next start against the Cincinnati Reds Wednesday, Sept. 23, but he should be avoided in FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Lance Lynn won't start this weekend

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 14:22:35 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn (ankle) will not make a start this weekend in order to receive more time to rest his ankle.

Fantasy Tip: Lynn's ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) injury isn't too serious, so he should return to the rotation after a little break. Using him on FantasyScore in his first turn back might be more of a risk than normal, though, depending on who he faces.
