Other than New York Yankees RP David Robertson as the closer, manager Joe Girardi indicated that the rest of the bullpen roles have been undecided. RP Shawn Kelley will probably serve as the setup man for Robertson, and RP Matt Thornton will likely be the situational left-hander. New York Yankees RP David Robertson isn't worried about becoming the new closer after the retirement of RP Mariano Rivera. "It's the same deal," Robertson said Tuesday after a pre-spring training workout at the Yankees' minor league complex. "Throwing the eighth or ninth inning, you've still got to get three outs. You've got to be effective. You can't give up a lead. I'm not going to try to overthink the whole situation."

New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said RP David Robertson will be the team's closer this season. "Robertson is going to be our closer, and I believe he will do a good job. We have done a lot to improve our team and we just have to understand that you cannot be perfect everywhere," Steinbrenner said.
Fantasy Tip: Robertson should be drafted in all leagues this offseason but could be a risk because he does not have much experience in the role. The team could also add another relief pitcher as a backup plan at the position.

The New York Yankees aren't sure if RP David Robertson will take over the closer role next season with RP Mariano Rivera retired. "I'm not sure if Robertson is capable yet. He's never done that before," general manager Brian Cashman said. "I think he's earned the right to take a shot at it, and he very well may be the guy. But we're not anointing him the guy. We'll wait to see how our winter plays out and how Spring Training works out. Then Joe (Girardi) and Larry (Rothschild) will determine at some point at the end of Spring Training who our closer is."

Although New York Yankees RP David Robertson would seem to be the heir apparent to CL Mariano Rivera, general manager Brian Cashman is not anointing him the closer just yet. "We haven't anointed anybody the closer, so I don't know," Cashman said. "I know Robertson wants it. But we'll see how the winter shakes out and how the competition in spring training takes place." The Yankees have been in contact with free-agent closers like Grant Balfour (Athletics)
