Padres | Tyson Ross, Andrew Cashner throw

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 15:54:03 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) and SP Andrew Cashner (neck) threw bullpen sessions Tuesday, June 21. Ross is not expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list until after the All-Star break, while Cashner may not be ready when he is first eligible to be activated.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Cashner is closer to returning than Ross, but both are probably a few weeks away from pitching for the Padres again. Owners should continue to hold onto them if they have to roster space.

Padres | Tyson Ross throws bullpen session

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 22:56:37 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) threw a 17-pitch bullpen session Saturday, June 18, his first since going to the 15-day disabled list in early April due to an inflamed shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when Ross will be able to return, but he is apparently making progress. If Ross is available off the waiver wire, scoop him up as a solid second-half stash option.

Padres | Tyson Ross throws Thursday

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 17:13:16 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) did long toss and threw off the front of the mound in the bullpen Thursday, June 16. He is expected to progress to regular bullpen sessions shortly.

Fantasy Tip: Manager Andy Green hinted a few days ago that Ross could begin throwing normal bullpen sessions as soon as this weekend, so he appears to be several weeks away from returning to action. When healthy, he is a solid pitching option to own in NL-only and deep mixed fantasy leagues and is worthy of stashing if you can afford the roster space.

Padres | Tyson Ross to throw bullpen session

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 23:02:21 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) continues to progress in his throwing program, and manager Andy Green indicated Ross' next step would be a bullpen session, which could happen this coming weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Sounds like Ross is finally making some tangible progress, but we're still probably weeks away from him taking the mound in any kind of competitive situation. If you have the space, keep holding him. If you're pressed, feel free to bid him farewell.

Padres | Tyson Ross not close to returning

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 05:44:59 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) probably will not be able to return to the starting rotation before the All-Star break, according to manager Andy Green.

Fantasy Tip: Ross has suffered several setbacks over the last few months and likely will need to make a few rehab starts before he is able to return. Ross is a solid fantasy pitcher when he is healthy, so owners should hold onto him if they have the roster space.

Padres | Tyson Ross plays catch

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 15:14:36 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) played catch on the field before the game against the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: Ross has sustained multiple setbacks since being placed on the disabled list Saturday, April 9, and likely is still a few weeks away from returning. When healthy, Ross is a solid mid-rotation arm with strikeout upside after he posted 407 punchouts through 391 2/3 innings during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Stay tuned for updates.

Padres | Tyson Ross hopes to throw soon

Tue, 31 May 2016 22:53:58 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) hopes to resume throwing within the next week. He made one start this season before landing on the 15-day disabled list due to an inflamed right shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Wait to see Ross officially return and prove his health in a full start or two before trusting him again in the active fantasy lineup.

Padres | Tyson Ross close to throwing

Fri, 27 May 2016 16:26:44 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) is doing weighted-ball drills in San Diego. Manager Andy Green said Ross could resume throwing within the next week.

Fantasy Tip: What a disappointment Ross has been to owners this year. After allowing seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings in his season debut he landed on the DL and hasn't been back since. He has a ways to go, too, and will likely need to go on a rehab assignment. He's probably not worth stashing in the majority of mixed leagues right now, and he's a high-risk, high-reward starter with an career 8.5 K/9 but also a dangerous career 3.6 BB/9.

Padres | Tyson Ross building strength

Tue, 17 May 2016 17:18:37 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) continues to build strength in his shoulder during his rehab and remains without a timetable for a return.

Fantasy Tip: It's not the way he hoped his season would be going to this point. Ross was likely dropped in a lot of mixed formats after he allowed seven earned runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings in his season debut and then landed on the DL. There remains value to be had after he posted a 9.7 K/9 in 33 starts for the Friars last year, but he'll have to come back and prove his health first before you can consider him a viable option in those same mixed leagues.

Padres | Tyson Ross still hasn't thrown

Wed, 04 May 2016 15:23:29 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) continues to recover from a strained right shoulder and has completed his first set of stabilization exercises, according to manager Andy Green. However, Ross hasn't resumed throwing, and there remains no timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: Ross isn't close to returning at all if he hasn't resumed throwing. He'll need to start with simulated games and bullpen sessions before likely going out on a rehab assignment. Don't expect him back anytime this month. That means Cesar Vargas, who had another nice showing Wednesday, could stick in the rotation for a while longer if he continues to pitch well. Despite the slow recovery, keep Ross stashed in the majority of fantasy leagues.
