Blue Jays | TOR scouting wide variety of pitchers

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 12:43:44 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays are looking at several pitchers in their quest to land a starter, according to baseball sources. Pitchers mentioned include Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija, Cincinnati Reds SP Mike Leake, Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco, Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers, San Diego Padres SP's Andrew Cashner and Tyson Ross.

Fantasy Tip: The Blue Jays are trying long and hard to improve their starting pitching, and other pitchers like Mat Latos and Dan Haren are also on this list. The odds of the Blue Jays landing one of these starters might be quite nice, thanks to how wide the net is.

Cubs | Tyson Ross pursued by Cubbies

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 20:42:54 -0700

The Chicago Cubs focus in trade talks with the San Diego Padres is on SP Tyson Ross, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) has emerged as a must-start FantasyScore option due to his fantastic strikeouts to nine innings (K/9) ratio, so he is a solid option wherever he lands.

Orioles | Baltimore discussing Justin Upton

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 13:26:00 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton has been discussed in trade talks with the Baltimore Orioles, according to sources. A potential deal could be expanded to include SPs Andrew Cashner and/or Tyson Ross, too.

Fantasy Tip: Upton ($6,000, 12.0% of cap), strangely enough, has hit better at Petco Park (.297/.354/.558 with 13 home runs) than on the road (.208/.308/.306 with three homers) this year. However, a move to hitter-friendly Camden Yards would do nothing to hurt his fantasy value moving forward. Save your FAAB money if you're in an AL-only league, as many impact players are likely to come over from the National League at the trade deadline.

Astros | HOU interested in Tyson Ross

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 19:21:28 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross is a pitcher of interest to the Houston Astros leading up to the non-waiver trade deadline July 31. The team has "had at least a preliminary conversation" with the Padres about Ross and SP Andrew Cashner.

Fantasy Tip: The Astros are obviously looking to add pitching, as they've been linked to Johnny Cueto, Cole Hamels and pretty much any of the other bigger name guys expected to be moved at the deadline. Ross would be a nice fit, but Cashner could have some issues in the American League.

Padres | Tyson Ross stingy with homers

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 04:56:52 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross has not allowed a home run in his last 11 starts, which span 72 innings total. Ross allowed only three homers all year.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) is a pitcher to consider for your FantasyScore lineups as long as he is putting up solid results like this.

Padres | Tyson Ross dominant in CG victory

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 05:23:12 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross allowed just four hits in his third career complete game Saturday, June 20, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ross allowed just one walk, while matching a season high with nine strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) was 1-3 in his previous four starts, and he was coming off a performance June 15, against the Oakland Athletics, in which he allowed five walks and four earned runs. Ross will have an excellent opportunity to keep it rolling Friday, June 26, in a rematch against the Diamondbacks.

Padres | Tyson Ross spins another solid outing

Sat, 06 Jun 2015 06:08:58 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out seven batters over five innings during the Padres 6-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. It was just Ross' third win of the season.

Fantasy Tip: The win total is misleading, as Ross ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) has been a model of consistency on the mound for the Friars. He has pitched at least five innings in each of his 12 starts and boasts a 10.1 K/9. And while his 3.75 ERA and 1.51 WHIP leave a little to be desired, Ross' 3.07 FIP suggests there are better days ahead. Expect the wins to come, the ratios to be chipped away at, and the strikeouts to continue adding up in bunches. Ross has also pitched his way into nightly FantasyScore consideration whenever he takes the hill, and especially at pitcher-friendly PETCO Park.

Padres | Consistency is king for Tyson Ross

Sat, 30 May 2015 06:21:03 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross has pitched at least five innings and allowed four earned runs or fewer in each of his 10 starts this season. He has a 3-4 record with a 3.84 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP and a 10.6 K/9.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) has become a reliable FantasyScore play, especially because of his strikeout upside. However, with a 3.06 FIP, there is room for improvement. His 4.6 BB/9 is also much higher than the 3.3 mark he posted through 320 2/3 innings over the previous two seasons. Expect Ross' value to begin to climb with small corrections due.
