Pirates | Andrew McCutchen going on DL, could be out for a month

The Pittsburgh Pirates are expected to place OF Andrew McCutchen (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list because of an oblique injury, and he could be out at least three to four weeks, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Starling Marte likely will take over in center field when he comes off the seven-day disabled list. Travis Snider likely will see most of the playing time while McCutchen is out but could also be part of a platoon with a right-handed hitter. Jose Tabata, Michael Martinez, Jayson Nix and Matt Hague are options to see playing time as part of a platoon but likely would only be options in NL-only leagues. Owners in deeper mixed leagues should look to add Snider if they have the chance.

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte is on bereavement leave. In a corresponding move, 3B Matt Hague was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis Wednesday, July 9.

Fantasy Tip: Check back for an update on the length of Marte's absence. If Hague gets enough at-bats, he has some NL-only value, due to his plus-power. Hague has 13 home runs and 59 RBIs this season for Indianapolis.

The Pittsburgh Pirates sent SP Jameson Taillon to their minor league camp among the team's first round of roster cuts Monday, March 10. He will start the year with Triple-A Indianapolis. A blister on one of the fingers on his pitching hand kept him from making a third spring start. INFs Matt Hague and Alen Hanson, C Carlos Paulino and Ps Casey Sadler and Joely Rodriguez were also sent down.
