The Detroit Tigers avoided arbitration with C Alex Avila Friday, Jan. 31, by agreeing to a one-year, $4.15 million deal. The deal includes a $5.4 million option for the 2015 season with a $200,000 buyout. The option will vest if Avila is an All-Star, in the top 15 in MVP voting or is a Silver Slugger.

He caught three innings and then experienced a headache, leading to his removal. The team was playing it safe.
