White Sox | Alex Avila reinjures hamstring

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 17:21:42 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Alex Avila (hamstring) aggravated a hamstring strain and he is expected to be out around four weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Avila endured a hamstring injury a couple of weeks ago, and while he was supposed to return at the end of July, it looks like that won't be happening now due to this setback. In the meantime, Dioner Navarro will benefit, though he isn't a reliable option. His batting average has been hovering around the Mendoza Line all season.

White Sox | Alex Avila to return in late July

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 20:50:31 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Alex Avila (hamstring) might return during the team's series at home July 21-24 against the Detroit Tigers. C Omar Narvaez had his contract purchased from Class AAA Charlotte to work as backup to C Dioner Navarro while Avila is on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Navarro has fantasy appeal as a No. 2 receiver in AL-only leagues while Avila is sidelined, while Narvaez isn't worth using unless you're looking for a salary saver option in DFS if and when he makes a start.

White Sox | Alex Avila could return July 21

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 18:29:15 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago White Sox C Alex Avila (hamstring) is hopeful that he will be able to return from the 15-day disabled list against the Detroit Tigers July 21, after missing the minimum number of days.

Fantasy Tip: Avila was batting .236 with three home runs and six RBI through 41 games prior to getting injured. When healthy, he is only worth rostering in AL-only and two-catcher fantasy leagues. C Dioner Navarro will see the bulk of the action behind the plate for the ChiSox in his absence.

White Sox | Alex Avila to DL

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 04:50:01 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Alex Avila (hamstring) will go on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, July 6, with a hamstring strain.

Fantasy Tip: Avila was a backup at best, but his absence will elevate Dioner Navarro's playing time a bit. Brett Hayes or Kevan Smith could also see time. None of these three players has significant fantasy value.

White Sox | Alex Avila leaves game

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 22:56:35 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Alex Avila (hamstring) left the game Tuesday, July 7, against the New York Yankees due to a strained right hamstring and he is expected to land on the 15-day disabled list. "Get a MRI in the morning and see the severity," Avila said.

Fantasy Tip: Avila is only worth using as a No. 2 receiver in most fantasy formats when he is healthy.

White Sox | Melky Cabrera remains sidelined

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 09:58:09 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Melky Cabrera (wrist) is not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Sunday, July 3. OF Avisail Garcia will start in left field and is batting eighth. C Alex Avila will serve as the designated hitter, while C Dioner Navarro will start at catcher and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Navarro is hitting .333 with two extra base hits and four RBI over the last seven days and should be a starting candidate for some daily fantasy leagues. Garcia and Avila should be used in AL-only leagues but may not have much value in mixed leagues.

White Sox | Avisail Garcia sitting out

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 08:58:54 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Avisail Garcia is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Saturday, June 25. C Alex Avila will serve as the designated hitter, while C Dioner Navarro will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Navarro has only four hits in his 30 at-bats this month and probably should be avoided because there should be better options available for owners.

White Sox | Alex Avila, J.B. Shuck out

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 13:16:51 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Alex Avila and OF J.B. Shuck are not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Eduardo Rodriguez Wednesday, June 22. C Dioner Navarro will start at catcher and is batting seventh. OF Adam Eaton will start in center field, while OF Jason Coats will start in right field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Navarro has only three hits in his last eight games and is hitting .115 this month. Coats has gone hitless since joining the team a few weeks ago. Neither player should be a starting candidate in fantasy leagues.

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 13:30:32 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Alex Avila is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz Tuesday, June 21. C Dioner Navarro will start at catcher and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Navarro has been on a cold streak over the last few weeks and has only one hit in his last 23 at-bats. He probably should be avoided in all daily fantasy leagues.
