Rockies | Charlie Blackmon continues heating up

Mon, 23 May 2016 14:18:48 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two doubles Monday, May 23, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Fantasy Tip: Blackmon got out to a woeful start this year, but he's picked it up considerably since then to lift his batting average up over .300. He's been especially efficient as of late, hitting .364 over his last five ballgames. As long as he remains the leadoff man in Colorado's dangerous batting order, he's someone that should always be on starting rosters in fantasy.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon has best game in '16

Wed, 11 May 2016 17:24:23 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon enjoyed his best performance of the season thus far Wednesday, May 11, opposite the Arizona Diamondbacks. He finished the contest 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI, also adding his second home run of the campaign.

Fantasy Tip: Blackmon struggled mightily out of the gate, and it certainly did him no favors when he missed a couple of weeks in April with an injury. However, the 29-year-old appears to be over all of that, as he now has a nine-game hitting streak. As long as he continues to bat leadoff in Colorado, he's a must-start option in all fantasy leagues.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon returns to lineup

Sat, 07 May 2016 12:32:08 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon is back in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto Saturday, May 7, leading off and playing center field. In addition, C Tony Wolters is starting behind the plate and batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Blackmon is 3-for-12 with one RBI in his career versus Cueto and is batting .310 in 29 at-bats over the last two weeks, so he merits consideration for daily lineups. Wolters is 7-for-44 this season and is not a great fantasy option.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon takes a seat

Fri, 06 May 2016 16:02:33 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon is not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants left-handed SP Madison Bumgarner Friday, May 6. OF Ryan Raburn is starting in left field and hitting sixth, with OF Gerardo Parra shifting over to center field. Also, 2B DJ LeMahieu moves up to the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Raburn is a notorious lefty killer, but MadBum isn't your typical southpaw on the hill tonight. It could prove difficult for Raburn to turn a profit in daily affairs. Parra becomes one to avoid in the tough lefty-lefty matchup. LeMahieu gains value with the move all the way up the order, but he should be seen as a contrarian play because of the matchup.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon activated, in lineup

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 15:23:48 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon (toe) was activated from the 15-day disabled list and is back in the leadoff spot against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray Friday, April 29. As a result, OF Gerardo Parra drops back down to the No. 6 spot in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: You'll want to return Blackmon to starting lineups in all traditional leagues. Against a lefty in his first game back, though, you'll likely want to avoid him in daily formats and allow him to shake off some rust. Parra's daily value drops slightly with the move out of the leadoff spot, but he should remain a solid starter in all other fantasy formats.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon begins rehab

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 23:35:33 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon (toe) will play seven innings Tuesday, April 26, and a full game Wednesday, April 27, at Class A Modesto. If he progresses well, he could return from the disabled list Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Blackmon's return would send Ryan Raburn back to the bench. Raburn has a .333-3-6 line thus far and would be worth consideration in DFS when he's in there.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon close to a rehab stint

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 06:50:56 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon (toe) could begin a rehab assignment as soon as this week, according to manager Walt Weiss.

Fantasy Tip: Blackmon has a history with turf toe and it could limit his upside on the base paths. He may also have to rest more than usual, so don't be surprised if he doesn't approach the 40-steals mark this year. Still, he should be returned to your starting lineups immediately upon his return to the Rockies.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon ramps up activity

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 11:30:28 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon (toe) played catch, took dry swings and did light movements without his walking boot Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: There's a chance that Blackmon will be ready to come off the DL in two weeks when he's eligible. But keep in mind that he's had a history with turf toe, and it could curb his ability to steal bags upon his return. Regardless, you'll want to return Blackmon to starting lineups everywhere when he's activated.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon says he'll be ready

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 15:25:16 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon (toe) is wearing a walking boot on his left foot but says he'll be ready to come off the 15-day disabled list when his time is up.

Fantasy Tip: Blackmon has dealt with turf toe before, and he might not be ready to run like he normally would upon his return. That shouldn't stop you from returning to lineups in all fantasy formats when he's ready, though. Ben Paulsen's fantasy value receives a short-term boost while seeing starts in first base and the outfield with Blackmon out.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon put on DL

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 11:42:37 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon (toe) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with turf toe on his left foot Thursday, April 14, and C Dustin Garneau was called up from Class AAA Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Gerardo Parra is playing center field Thursday, so he figures to play center field mostly with Blackmon sidelined. Some combination of Ryan Raburn and Brandon Barnes could take over in left field. Also, Ben Paulsen could see more at-bats there, as he's starting in left Thursday. Raburn and Paulsen are intriguing in deep mixed and NL leagues because of their power and success against right-handed pitchers.
