Houston Astros SP Kyle Weiland (shoulder) is not expected to return this season after having shoulder surgery back in May, according to general manager Jeff Luhnow. "Given how much time he's missed, I'd be surprised if he made it back into the competition this year," Luhnow said Sunday, July 15. Weiland was transferred from the 15-day to 60-day disabled list Sunday.

Manager Bradley Mills said Weiland needs to build up his strength and muscle density before he can do anything. "It's going to be a long process," Mills said.

Houston Astros SP Kyle Weiland (shoulder) began rehab Wednesday, May 9, by doing range-of-motion exercises, as he makes his way back from surgery May 1 to clear up an infection in his right shoulder. Weiland is aiming to be able to throw a baseball in four weeks, with hopes of contributing in the second half of the season.
