Pittsburgh Pirates SS Clint Barmes (groin) is back from the 15-day disabled list and ready to resume his utility role. The team had been using a combination of INFs Michael Martinez, Jayson Nix and Brent Morel while Barmes was away. Manager Clint Hurdle also said Monday, Aug. 25, that Barmes could see starts in the near future to spell 3B/OF Josh Harrison at third base, and SS Jordy Mercer at shortstop.

Pittsburgh Pirates SS Jordy Mercer (forearm) said he is not 100 percent, and he doesn't expect to completely heal.

Fantasy Tip: Mercer's defense keeps him in the lineup, so playing through injury should further hinder his offensive production. You should be able to do better in the majority of leagues.

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Pirates SS Jordy Mercer (forearm) said there was no improvement in his forearm Friday, Aug. 15, however it was not any worse, either.

Fantasy Tip: Check back for an update on Mercer's MRI results. The severity of his injury should be revealed then.

Pittsburgh Pirates SS Jordy Mercer (forearm) will visit with a doctor Friday, Aug. 15, because he has yet to have an MRI exam.

Fantasy Tip: Mercer remains out of the lineup tonight, so do not put him into any of your daily starting lineups.
