Astros | Houston out on Craig Kimbrel

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 12:50:04 -0700

San Diego Padres RP Craig Kimbrel is not going to the Houston Astros, as one source said "that ship has sailed."

Fantasy Tip: The New York Yankees were pushing hard for Kimbrel, too, and it looks like they won't land him, either. For now, it appears that Luke Gregerson will retain the closer's job in Houston and keep his fantasy value as a ninth-inning stopper. However, the trade deadline hasn't passed yet, so a lot can still go down.

Yankees | NY willing to part with Jorge Mateo?

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 12:34:38 -0700

New York Yankees SS Jorge Mateo was available to the San Diego Padres in a package for RP Craig Kimbrel, according to a source. However, a deal for Kimbrel appears to be a no-go, and the Yankees expect the Padres to send him somewhere else now.

Fantasy Tip: Marte is the Yankees top infield prospect, and they hold him in high regard, which shows how badly they wanted to land Kimbrel. As of now, that deal and talks appear to be off. Andrew Miller may be safe from losing much of his fantasy value after all.

Padres | Craig Kimbrel drawing plenty of interest

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 12:21:23 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres RP Craig Kimbrel has been involved in trade talks with six different teams leading into the trade deadline Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: It would seem Kimbrel is a lock to be traded, but if teams aren't ponying up with the right pieces, he could still stick with the Friars. There is a small chance he is traded to a contender and not utilized as a closer, but it is highly unlikely. Don't make any hasty moves, Kimbrel will likely remain a high-end closer once the deadline passes.

Yankees | NY won't settle for Ian Kennedy, Joaquin Benoit

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 12:09:23 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy and RP Joaquin Benoit are not of interest to the New York Yankees if they can't acquire Padres RP Craig Kimbrel, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy, Benoit or Kimbrel could all still be dealt in separate deals, but the Yankees have their sights set high while trying to upgrade an already stellar bullpen. Stay tuned as the trade deadline approaches.

Yankees | NY out on Craig Kimbrel?

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 09:28:33 -0700

The New York Yankees' talks for San Diego Padres RP Craig Kimbrel broke down Thursday, July 30, and they have not revived Friday, July 31. The Yankees see Miami Marlins RP Carter Capps as another option.

Fantasy Tip: The Yankees desperately want to bolster what has already been a lights-out bullpen this year with Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller fortifying the back end. If Kimbrel is acquired, Miller will lose a lot of his value. If Capps comes in, expect him to set up in some capacity.

Yankees | NY really wants Craig Kimbrel

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 08:43:29 -0700

San Diego Padres RP Craig Kimbrel is of interest to the New York Yankees, and they are willing to pay all of the $28 million remaining on his contract through the 2017 season. However, it isn't known what the Yankees are willing to offer in terms of players, and they declined to give up SS prospect Jorge Mateo.

Fantasy Tip: Kimbrel will remain an elite fantasy closing option, regardless of if he stays in San Diego or not. Andrew Miller would lose significant fantasy value if Kimbrel comes on board to take the Yankees' ninth-inning duties. Expect either Joaquin Benoit or Brandon Maurer to jump into the closing role if Kimbrel leaves San Diego.

Red Sox | Boston interested in Craig Kimbrel

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 07:47:13 -0700

San Diego Padres RP Craig Kimbrel is now drawing interest from the Boston Red Sox, according to sources. The New York Yankees and Houston Astros are also discussing the Padres closer. The Red Sox could look to acquire one of San Diego's starting pitchers, too.

Fantasy Tip: Kimbrel likely won't lose any of his fantasy value if he's traded, as he's expected to close wherever he lands. In Boston, Koji Uehara would lose most of his fantasy appeal if Kimbrel joined the BoSox. Joaquin Benoit or Brandon Maurer would be the likely candidates to take over the ninth-inning duties in San Diego if Kimbrel leaves town.

Astros | Houston-SD deal about to go down?

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 16:18:11 -0700

The Houston Astros and San Diego Padres are gaining steam in trade talks over pitching, according to a person familiar with the situation. San Diego Padres RP Craig Kimbrel and SPs Andrew Cashner and Tyson Ross could all be fits for the Astros. Houston is also on the heels of a trade for Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels, but they don't expect to land him.

Fantasy Tip: None of the Padres pitchers figures to have their fantasy value drastically affected by a trade to the Astros, although leaving the pitching-friendly environment of Petco Park could have negative implications, mainly for Cashner or Ross.

Astros | Houston monitoring reliever market

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 10:46:41 -0700

San Diego Padres RPs Craig Kimbrel and Joaquin Benoit and Milwaukee Brewers RP Francisco Rodriguez are of interest to the Houston Astros as they look to upgrade their bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Houston's interest in adding a bullpen arm is not what owners of Luke Gregerson want to hear, as he'd likely be removed from the closer role if they add one of those arms at the deadline. Other closing candidates would emerge in San Diego or Milwaukee, too, if a trade goes down. Stay tuned.
