Washington Nationals RP Ryan Mattheus (chest) has been shut down since Tuesday, Feb. 18, because of an upper chest injury. He experienced pain following his second bullpen session of camp and is still awaiting MRI results. "There's a joint in there that connects the cartilage to the sternum," he said. "I think I might have irritated the cartilage or an intercostal muscle or messed a rib up or something. I felt it after my second bullpen. They just kind of shut me down and said, 'We'll see how it feels the next couple days,' and it hasn't gotten any better. Hurts with deep breathing and things like that. It's really strange. Something I've never experienced before. It's painful." Mattheus added that he was unable to cough or sneeze.

The Washington Nationals recalled RP Drew Storen from Triple-A Syracuse Thursday, Aug. 15, and optioned RP Ryan Mattheus in a corresponding move. Storen was sent down July 27 when he was 3-2 with two saves and a 5.95 ERA in 47 games. He was 0-0 with a 5.68 ERA in six games with Syracuse and threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings in his last three outings on the farm.
Fantasy Tip: Storen will likely be returned to some sort of setup role. He has very little chance of seeing save opportunities for the rest of the season unless there is an injury to Rafael Soriano, who has been solid all year long.
