Orioles | Steve Pearce at 2B Tuesday

Tue, 12 May 2015 11:42:57 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Steve Pearce is starting at second base and hitting sixth in the batting order against Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle Tuesday, May 12. 2B Ryan Flaherty (groin) tweaked his groin in the game Monday, May 11.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is off to a rough start to the season and has lost playing time quickly as a result. He only has three hits in May. However, Buehrle has allowed four home runs and a slash line of .363/.391/.569 to right-handed hitters this season. Pearce could become a great value play this evening.

Orioles | Ryan Flaherty's status up in air

Mon, 11 May 2015 19:56:38 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles 2B Ryan Flaherty (groin) is expected to have an MRI Tuesday, May 12. Manager Buck Showalter said Flaherty must be able to play Tuesday to avoid a stint on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Flaherty spent time on the DL already with a groin issue, and he appears to be headed back barring an unexpected good result. Avoid him in FantasyScore until his situation is more clear. Steve Pearce ($3,000; or 6.0% of cap) is likely start at second base if Flaherty is forced to the shelf.

Orioles | Ryan Flaherty leaves game

Mon, 11 May 2015 18:00:40 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Ryan Flaherty (groin) left the game Monday,May 11, against the Toronto Blue Jays due to an apparent injury. He had been on the 15-day disabled list earlier in the season with a strained right groin muscle, and he felt discomfort during a game over the weekend against the New York Yankees. He limped back to second base after meeting with a trainer before slowly walking to the dugout.

Fantasy Tip: With Flaherty out, Steve Pearce ($3,000; 6.0% of cap) came in from outfield to play second, while David Lough ($1,800; 3.6% of cap) entered the game. Both could see fairly regular at-bats if Flaherty misses time.

Baltimore Orioles OF Steve Pearce is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 8. 2B Ryan Flaherty recently came off the 15-day disabled list and will be the starting second baseman for the Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has not been off to a hot start at the plate, so he is receiving a day off. Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has not played since April 23, and owners on FantasyScore may want to see him play in a game or two before using him.

Orioles | Jonathan Schoop scratched from lineup

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 10:02:31 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop (quadriceps) was scratched from the starting lineup Sunday, April 12, because of a sore quadriceps but will be available off the bench. 2B Ryan Flaherty will start at second base in place of Schoop.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation to see how long Schoop ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) may be sidelined. Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) probably should not be a starting option for most owners on FantasyScore.

Orioles | Everth Cabrera, Ryan Flaherty options at SS

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 15:15:46 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS Everth Cabrera and 2B Ryan Flaherty are options to play the 6 with SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) expected to start the season on the disabled list. Hardy was diagnosed with a subscapularis strain, a muscle under the shoulder blade, and he won't do any baseball activities for 10 days. Hardy would be eligible to play April 11, but he won't be ready on that date.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) should be ignored for much of the first month of the season at FantasyScore. Cabrera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is an intriguing stolen base asset for a cheap cost in daily games to open 2015. He should be owned in AL-only leagues if he's not already, and he could be worth a stab as a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues for some stolen bases out of the gates.

Orioles | Everth Cabrera to compete for utility role

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 09:00:43 -0800

Baltimore Orioles SS Everth Cabrera, who was signed to a one-year, $2.4 million deal with $600,000 in incentives, could compete for a utility infield role with 2Bs Ryan Flaherty and Jayson Nix.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera is just a year removed from stealing 37 bases with the San Diego Padres, and the year before that he had 44 thefts. He's obviously best known for his speed, and he could make an impact on deep mixed rosters if he sees enough playing time. He's worth a late-round stab if you're looking to add some steals.
