Pirates | Josh Harrison to start at second base

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 19:23:07 -0800

Pittsburgh Pirates INF Josh Harrison is expected to become the team's full-time second baseman, following the trade of Neil Walker to the New York Mets, according to general manager Neal Huntington. INF Jung Ho Kang (leg, knee) will serve as the regular third baseman once he's completely healthy.

Fantasy Tip: After several years of bouncing between second base, third base and the outfield, it appears as though Harrison finally has a regular position. He hit .287 with four home runs, 28 RBIs and 10 steals in 114 regular-season games in 2015 but shouldn't be considered as anything more than a utility infielder in NL-only and deep mixed leagues at this point.

Pirates | Josh Harrison finished the season hot

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 15:23:22 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Josh Harrison owns a .378 batting average and a .425 on-base percentage with 10 extra-base hits over his past 74 at-bats since Thursday, Sept. 10. With 3B Aramis Ramirez mired in a 2-for-20 stretch at the plate over his past 20 games, Harrison is starting at third base and batting second against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Fantasy Tip: It is no wonder Harrison ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) received the starting nod over Ramirez ($4,300, 8.6% of cap), but FantasyScore players will want to think twice about loading up Harrison in their FantasyScore lineups Wednesday. After all, Arrieta ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) has allowed just four earned runs over his past 12 starts.

Pirates | Aramis Ramirez, Pedro Alvarez out Wednesday

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 11:55:18 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup for the wild-card game Wednesday, Oct. 7. 3B Josh Harrison is starting at third base and hitting second, while 1B Sean Rodriguez is at first base and is batting eighth against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to recommend anyone against Arrieta, who had the best second half of any pitcher in baseball history. However, Harrison ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is attractive at his price and lineup position. Rodriguez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) should be avoided.

Pirates | Aramis Ramirez sitting out

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 10:17:05 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez is not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP Josh Smith. 3B Josh Harrison will start at third base and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) likely will be in the lineup for the wild-card playoff game. Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has picked up five hits in his last five games but has not recorded an RBI in his last nine games. Owners may be able to find better options to use.

Pirates | Neil Walker has a seat

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 13:20:48 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Neil Walker is out of the lineup Saturday, Oct. 3, with 2B Josh Harrison leading off.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) takes on lefty Brandon Finnegan, and he has hit slightly better against lefties with .288 average this season. He's a low-to-midrange option on FantasyScore.

Pirates | Neil Walker, Pedro Alvarez out against lefty

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 14:43:25 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Neil Walker and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader against St. Louis Cardinals left-handed SP Tyler Lyons Wednesday, Sept. 30. 3B Josh Harrison is starting at second base and hitting leadoff, while 1B Michael Morse is at first base and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has a triple slash line of .293/.355/.374 against lefties this year and has been hot in September. He makes for a great value pick tonight against the lefty Lyon. Morse ($3,300, 6.6% of cap), on the other hand, hasn't done much all year and is strictly a lotto ticket as a deep sleeper.

Pirates | Josh Harrison grabs some pine

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 08:16:39 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Josh Harrison is out of the lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader Wednesday, Sept. 30, with 3B Aramis Ramirez hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: A-Ram ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is 2-for-6 (.333) with a homer off Michael Wacha. He is hitting just .188 the last week, but Ramirez has owned the Cardinals in his career. He's a speculative flyer on FantasyScore.

Pirates | Aramis Ramirez sitting out

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 13:16:47 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez is not in the starting lineup Monday, Sept. 28. 3B Josh Harrison is starting at third base and batting second against St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) doesn't have any home runs and just four RBI this month, but he's also hitting .306 (22-for-72) with six doubles. Lynn has been up and down this month but had six shutout innings in his last inning. You could do much worse than Harrison as a value play on FantasyScore tonight.

Pirates | Pedro Alvarez, Neil Walker sitting out

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 10:26:47 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Pedro Alvarez and 2B Neil Walker are not in the lineup against Chicago Cubs left-handed SP Jon Lester Friday, Sept. 25. 1B Michael Morse is starting at first base and batting sixth, while 3B Josh Harrison is starting at the keystone and hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Despite having plenty of power, Morse ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is having a rough year and remains a low-end first base option. Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has hit well in September and is worth considering because of his .305/.362/.389 slash line against lefties this year.

Pirates | Aramis Ramirez still out

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 10:35:46 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez (groin) remains out of the lineup Thursday, Sept. 24. 3B Josh Harrison is starting at third base again and is hitting leadoff against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has hit well this month despite a lack of power, and he's a nice value pick on FantasyScore again in the series finale at hitter-friendly Coors Field.
