Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) pitched a scoreless seventh inning and recorded two strikeouts during the Twins 3-0 win over the Houston Astros Friday, Aug.28. RP Kevin Jepsen recorded his ninth save of the season after allowing two hits and a walk in the final frame.
Fantasy Tip: There are a few potential explanations, as Perkins' status was a little iffy entering the game, which is one reason why he may have not been used in the ninth inning. Another could be Perkins' 6.75 ERA over 12 innings since the All-Star break. Seasonal owners may want to let Jepsen's leash out a little longer with the hope he receives more closing opportunities down the stretch. Though, it is likely Perkins returns to the closer role sooner than later.

Minnesota Twins RP Kevin Jepsen will serve as the short-term closer, according to manager Paul Molitor. There is no update on RP Glen Perkins (neck), who is having his neck examined.
Fantasy Tip: Pick up Jepsen in all but shallow leagues or leagues where saves aren't a factor.

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins rebounded with a scoreless ninth inning in a non-save situation against the Seattle Mariners Thursday, July 30, after blowing two saves out of the All-Star break while allowing six earned runs. The Twins on Friday, July 31, acquired RP Kevin Jepsen from the Tampa Bay Rays to bolster their bullpen in front of Perkins. Right-handed hitters are batting just .192 against Jepsen this year, but he has a 4.60 ERA in his last 18 outings going back to June 11.
Fantasy Tip: Perkins was due to face a rough patch after being perfect in save chances in the first half of the season. He isn't in any danger of being bumped from ninth-inning duties, though. Jepsen is in a rough patch of his own but could be Minnesota's primary eighth-inning setup man for Perkins. Jepsen has very minimal fantasy value in the deepest of setups.

Tampa Bay Rays SP Nathan Karns could be traded away by the Ray, as they are willing to listen on pitchers. RP Kevin Jepsen may be the most likely to leave town.
Fantasy Tip: Karns ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) has had a solid rookie season, going 6-5 with a 3.37 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 20 starts (115 innings) for the Rays this season. It's hard to imagine his fantasy value changing all that much if he's dealt, depending on where he lands. Jepsen is unlikely to fall into a closing role if he's traded away, so his fantasy value remains limited.

Tampa Bay Rays RP Brad Boxberger, RP Jake McGee and RP Kevin Jepsen are believed to be available for trade.
Fantasy Tip: If Boxberger is dealt, McGee would likely regain his closer status. Keep an eye on the situation.

Tampa Bay Rays RP Kevin Jepsen fell to 1-5 on the year with a loss to the Cleveland Indians Sunday, June 21. He allowed one run on two hits and walked one in two-thirds of an inning.
Fantasy Tip: Jepsen has seen some save chances during the year, but his worst stretch of the season has coincided with former closer Jake McGee looking dominant. McGee and Brad Boxberger look like the pitchers to own in Tampa Bay's bullpen.
