Fantasy Tip: Valaika is unlikely to get enough playing time to have fantasy relevance. He has displayed modest pop and good contact skills at the Triple-A level, though.

Miami Marlins SS Chris Valaika (wrist) underwent surgery on his left wrist Friday, May 10, and he will be out for an extended period of time.

Fantasy Tip: Valaika didn't expect to have much fantasy value this season, anyway, aside from the playing time hike he was getting in the short term with Donovan Solano (intercostal) on the disabled list.

Miami Marlins INF Chris Valaika (wrist) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a fracture in his left wrist. To clear room on the 40-man roster for Valaika's replacement, prospect SS Derek Dietrich, the club transferred 1B Casey Kotchman (hamstring) from the 15-day to the 60-day DL.

Miami Marlins SS Derek Dietrich is not in the Double-A Jacksonville Suns' lineup on Wednesday, May 8. MLB.com's Joe Frisaro speculates that the 23-year-old could be on his way to join the parent club because of it.

Fantasy Tip: The Fish acquired Dietrich in a trade for Yunel Escobar. INF Chris Valaika (wrist) may be headed to the disabled list, and 2B Donovan Solano (intercostal) is already there. The left-handed hitter has posted a .282/.408/.505 slash line in 28 games this season. He has a little power and speed and would be an interesting player to pursue in NL-only leagues, even though he's probably quite raw.

The Miami Marlins placed SS Adeiny Hechavarria (elbow) on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, April 18.

Fantasy Tip: Nick Green was called up today also, but expect Chris Valaika to see the majority of PT at the 6 in Hechavarria's absence. Valaika is an option in the most cavernous of NL-only universes, though.
