The Toronto Blue Jays have placed 1B Adam Lind (back) on the 15-day disabled list because of a back injury and recalled 1B Juan Francisco from Triple-A Buffalo. The team also transferred 2B Maicer Izturis (knee) to the 60-day disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Francisco may get most of the playing time while Lind is out of the lineup and should be an option for most AL-only owners.

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Juan Francisco was pulled from his game with Triple-A Buffalo Friday, April 18, and is expected to be called up because of the injury to 1B Adam Lind (back).

The Toronto Blue Jays are hoping 1B Adam Lind (back) can avoid a trip to the disabled list, but he hasn't looked much better two days after suffering a lower back injury, and he has been walking around gingerly. The team will wait at least another day before making a decision. 1Bs Dan Johnson or Juan Francisco would be promoted from Triple-A Buffalo if Lind is put on the shelf, and the designated hitter would turn into a platoon with the likes of C Dioner Navarro and OF Colby Rasmus.
Fantasy Tip: Both Johnson and Francisco are intriguing for AL-only managers for their power, but Francisco is younger and has more upside.

The Milwaukee Brewers requested waivers on 1B Juan Francisco after he did not win the first base job this spring. He hit .346 with three home runs and six RBIs in camp but lost the job to 1Bs Lyle Overbay and Mark Reynolds.
Fantasy Tip: It's probably only a matter of time before another team takes a chance on Francisco. Because of his poor defense at first base, Francisco would ideally land in the American League and be a candidate for the DH spot.

Milwaukee Brewers 1Bs Lyle Overbay and Mark Reynolds will likely platoon at first base to start the year, as the team elected to go with veterans at the position over 1B Juan Francisco. Overbay had three hits Sunday, March 23, but he was hitting just .114 this spring before the game.
Fantasy Tip: A platoon here basically wipes out any small value either player would have on his own. Reynolds is probably slightly more valuable because of his power potential, but he won't be seeing as many at-bats if it's a straight righty-lefty platoon.

The Milwaukee Brewers may be in the process of parting with 1B Juan Francisco, which would give 1B Mark Reynolds and 1B Lyle Overbay the edge at first base this season. Francisco's locker has been cleared out, a possible sign that the Brewers have designated Francisco for assignment. No official announcement has been made.

Milwaukee Brewers 1B Mark Reynolds has a leg up in the first base competition this spring partly because of his experience in the big leagues. He's hitting only .161 with a double and five RBIs this spring, but Reynolds isn't concerned that he's not driving the ball out of the park just yet. 1Bs Lyle Overbay and Juan Francisco are the other two candidates for first base. Both Reynolds and Overbay have out clauses in their contracts if they aren't signed to the roster by March 24 and March 22, respectively, and Francisco is out of minor league options.
Fantasy Tip: Reynolds is a decent target on the cheap in NL-only leagues if you're looking for some power late in your draft. You'll have to put up with terrible contact rates and a low BA, though.

The Milwaukee Brewers agreed on one-year deals with SP Marco Estrada and 3B Juan Francisco Friday, Jan. 17. Estrada will receive $3.25 million plus $100,000 in performance bonuses based on innings. Francisco will make $1.35 million.

The Milwaukee Brewers are believed to have made an offer to re-sign 1B Corey Hart, and the club is waiting on his answer, which is expected to come later this week. General manager Doug Melvin said he spoke to Hart's agent, Jeff Berry. It's likely that the Brewers offered Hart a one-year deal heavy with incentives. 3B Juan Francisco or names like Hunter Morris, Jason Rogers and Sean Halton would be options at first base next year if Hart doesn't come back.
