Updating a previous report, Kansas City Royals OF Lorenzo Cain (hamstring) began his rehab assignment on Wednesday, July 27. He played seven innings for Class AAA Omaha and was 1-for-4 with a strikeout.

Fantasy Tip: Cain is officially back on the field and inching closer to returning. Once he's back he can be plugged into your lineups as he's expected to play in an everyday capacity.

Fantasy Tip: This should put Cain back in the starting lineup in early August, at which point he should go into your lineup. He'll likely play every day upon return.

Kansas City Royals OF Lorenzo Cain (hamstring) was scheduled to do some running Sunday, July 24. Manager Ned Yost said Cain is close to starting a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Cain probably will need at least one week of rehab games before he is able to return to the starting lineup. He will be an everyday player once he returns from the injury and should be starting option in most fantasy leagues.

Kansas City Royals OF Lorenzo Cain (hamstring) took live batting practice Friday, July 8, for the first time since being placed on the disabled list Wednesday, June 29. He said he will likely need 12 to 15 at-bats on a rehab assignment before returning from the DL.

Fantasy Tip: Cain is a solid mid-tier starter in all fantasy formats with some upside to finish the season even better than he started. He offers cross-category production and sits with 39 runs, eight home runs, 39 RBI, six stolen bases and a .290/.336/.416 slash line. Kansas City Royals OF Lorenzo Cain (hamstring) participated in on-field running and agility drills Thursday, July 7, after taking swings off a tee Tuesday, July 5, and taking flips in the batting cage Wednesday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: Cain will probably be activated from the disabled list shortly after the All-Star break, although he is likely to require a rehab assignment first. OFs Jarrod Dyson and Brett Eibner should be viewed as viable outfield options in AL-only seasonal leagues during Cain's absence, with Dyson having a slight advantage because of his speed.

Updating an ongoing story, Kansas City Royals OF Lorenzo Cain (hamstring) was diagnosed with a Grade 1-plus strain of his left hamstring and should not require more than the required time on the 15-day disabled list, according to manager Ned Yost. Yost noted Cain could return Friday, July 15.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Cain's fantasy owners, and the center fielder should be stashed in all seasonal leagues. Brett Eibner could see some fleeting value, but it's likely Jarrod Dyson who will benefit the most while Cain is inactive. For now, Dyson is a viable option in the majority of seasonal leagues because of his speed. Stay tuned for updates on Cain's recovery and return timeline.

Kansas City Royals OF Lorenzo Cain (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. OF Brett Eibner was recalled from Class AAA Omaha.

Fantasy Tip: Eibner has a .288-11-32 line in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. The right-handed hitter could platoon with left-handed hitting Jarrod Dyson. Both are AL-only options with Dyson having the slight upper hand due to his 12 steals. There is no word on how long Cain will be out, but he'll be out until after the All-Star break. Keep him stashed in all formats.
