Athletics | Josh Reddick focused on reaching base

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 14:35:03 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick has been aiming to reach base more consistently and strike out less this season, even if it means he hits fewer home runs. "As much as I would like more power numbers, I'm not going to go home and beat myself up for it, because I can still be a natural 15-20 (home runs per season) guy whether I'm trying to or not," Reddick said. "With that thought process, the average is a lot higher, the strikeouts are down and I've become a better hitter."

Fantasy Tip: Reddick ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) currently sports a .278/.333/.452 slash line and his current .784 OPS is actually higher than his .768 mark from his 32-homer showing in 2012. Still, fantasy owners would love to see a home run spike down the stretch from Reddick, but it doesn't look likely with his new plate approach. Reddick is a low-end outfield option in mixed leagues, and he isn't worth targeting at FantasyScore unless he lands in a ripe matchup.

Athletics | Brett Lawrie batting third

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 14:32:17 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Brett Lawrie (back) is batting third against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Monday, Aug. 31. OF Josh Reddick is batting eighth Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) missed the game Sunday, Aug. 30, because of a back injury. However, it shouldn't be viewed as a significant hindrance to his fantasy stock with him right back in the lineup. FantasyScore players should view Lawrie as a potential value play Monday. He owns a .298/.343/.500 slash line against southpaws this season. Reddick ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) carries significant risk Monday. He is pricey and owns an uninspiring .639 OPS against lefties.

Athletics | Josh Reddick struggles against King Felix

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 11:13:01 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick is batting .149 (7-for-47) in his career against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez, who he faces Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez hasn't been his normal self in his last two starts, so perhaps there's a bit more reason to consider Reddick ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) as a contrarian play today. After all, he does have a .297/.343/.486 slash line with 12 of his 15 home runs against righties.

Athletics | No Josh Reddick against Tampa Bay

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 15:42:06 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick is not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays left-handed SP Drew Smyly Friday, Aug. 21. OF Jake Smolinski is starting in right field and batting fifth Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Reddick ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. He isn't having a banner second half with just three home run, 10 RBI and a .261/.292/.457 slash line since the All-Star break. Seasonal owners should be looking for an upgrade. Smolinski is a potential upside source of cap relief at FantasyScore Friday.

Athletics | Josh Reddick sitting out

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 09:20:20 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick is not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen Sunday, Aug. 16. OF Sam Fuld will start in right field and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Reddick ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) struggles against left-handed pitching, so he is receiving a day off. Fuld ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has only one hit in his last nine games and is not a great option for owners on FantasyScore.

Athletics | Brett Lawrie in three-hole

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 08:30:16 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Brett Lawrie is hitting third against left-handed Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle Thursday, Aug. 13. OF Josh Reddick moved down and is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is a great start on FantasyScore today as he has a .271-5-17 line in 107 at-bats against lefties. Reddick ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) isn't a good play today because he's hitting just .193 against southpaws.

Athletics | Josh Reddick in lineup Saturday

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 12:05:03 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick will play right field and bat cleanup against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Saturday, Aug. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Reddick ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is batting .311 with 11 home runs and 48 RBIs against righties this season but he is 1-for-12 over the past week and hitless in six at-bats against McHugh in his career.

Athletics | No Josh Reddick vs. Houston

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 15:04:32 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick is not in the starting lineup Friday, Aug. 7. OF Sam Fuld is starting in right field and batting ninth against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Reddick ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. There is no point starting Fuld ($2,800, 5.6% of cap), either, though. He is just 3-for-30 against southpaws this season, and he owns an uninspiring .231/.311/.329 slash line for his career.

Athletics | Josh Reddick batting third

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 14:47:57 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (back) is playing right field and batting third against Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman Thursday, Aug. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Reddick ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) was expected to return after missing the past three games. He has been a force against right-handed hurlers this year with a .312/.360/.509 slash line and 11 long flies. Still, he hasn't been great of late with a .626 OPS over his past 40 games.

Athletics | Josh Reddick likely to return Thursday

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 14:22:40 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (back) is likely to return to the lineup and face Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman Thursday, Aug. 6. Reddick is a .304 career hitter against Feldman with three home runs in 28 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: If Reddick ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is back in there tomorrow against the Astros, he'll make for a solid FantasyScore outfield option because of his history against Feldman. Reddick has crushed right-handers this year to a .312/.360/.509 slash line with 11 of his 13 home runs.
