Athletics | Josh Reddick unlikely for opener

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 11:05:28 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (oblique) is unlikely to be ready for the season opener, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't come as a big surprise, as oblique strains can often be tricky and require plenty of rest. For that reason, Reddick ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) doesn't make for a strong FantasyScore play when he initially returns to action.

Athletics | Josh Reddick takes batting practice

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 16:31:38 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (oblique) took batting practice Thursday, March 26, and is expected to return to the lineup Saturday, March 28, or Sunday, March 29.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to check back for updates on Reddick's ($3,500. 7.0%) pursuit to open the season with the team. He is a serious injury risk and played just 114 games in 2013 and 109 last year. Still there is power upside, and Reddick is a viable late-round selection if you're lacking pop in the endgame of drafts. Allow Reddick to prove his health before utilizing him in FantasyScore contests.

Athletics | Josh Reddick eyeing weekend return

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 14:59:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (oblique) could see game action as early as this weekend, which is much earlier than anticipated after an MRI exam earlier this month on his right oblique strain put opening day in question. Reddick said he still has some tightness when swinging the bat, but he is throwing more than 100 feet without any discomfort. He also said he has enough time to be ready for opening day.

Fantasy Tip: The timetable seems optimistic, and moving Reddick up your draft cheat sheets is unadvised. He is a late-round flier with power upside, but he remains a serious injury risk. Reddick only played 114 and 109 games in the 2013 and 2014 seasons, respectively. Continue to check back for updates on his recovery and return timeline.

Athletics | Josh Reddick progressing slowly

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 12:00:45 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (oblique) swung a bat without contact again Friday, March 20, and said he expects to hit off a tee Saturday, March 21.

Fantasy Tip: It was believed Reddick would hit off a tee Friday, so Oakland is clearly being extremely cautious with him. Reddick played just 114 games in 2012 and 109 games last season, so health has been a reoccurring issue for him. He is best left until the late rounds of mixed league drafts, and he might miss most of the first month of the season.

Athletics | Josh Reddick swings

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 09:38:34 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (oblique) swung a bat without hitting Wednesday, March 18, and he didn't suffer any setbacks. He'll likely attempt to hit off a tee Friday, March 20.

Fantasy Tip: Reddick has had his share of injuries in the past two seasons, and he hasn't played over 114 games since he played 156 in 2012. For that reason alone, he shouldn't be considered until the later rounds of mixed leagues. Oblique injuries can be tricky, too, so Reddick may not play for much of the first month of the season.

Athletics | Josh Reddick to miss Opening Day

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 11:04:53 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (oblique) will be sidelined four to six weeks due to a strained oblique. According to manager Bob Melvin, he will not do any baseball activities for the next two weeks.

Fantasy Tip: If you're willing to wait for him to recover from his injury, Reddick is worth a late-round flier in AL-only and deep mixed leagues because of his power-speed combo. In-house options to replace him in the A's outfield include Billy Burns, Tyler Ladendorf, Alden Carrithers, Jason Pridie and Alex Hassan but they have little fantasy value in any format. 1B Ike Davis and 1B Matt X. Olson could also see time in the outfield during Reddick's absence.

Athletics | Josh Reddick out a few days

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 10:30:12 -0800

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (oblique) thinks he'll be out four or five days due to a right oblique strain that he suffered leaping to try and catch a ball at the wall during defensive drills. Reddick said his Grade 2 left oblique strain in 2009 was much more severe. Reddick said he's not bothered too much with this latest injury. He is optimistic he'll return in limited time, and he plans to undergo an MRI exam in a few days.

Fantasy Tip: Reddick's injury doesn't appear very serious, but if he's not careful, oblique injuries can linger or become worse. He has enough time to be ready for the start of the regular season if he manages the injury correctly. Reddick is worth a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues because of his power-speed combo, but just don't expect a return to the 30-homer mark he showed in 2012.

Athletics | Josh Reddick has oblique injury

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 10:15:03 -0800

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (oblique) was scratched from the game Friday, March 6, with a right oblique strain. It's unknown how much time Reddick will miss. OF Mark Canha is likely to see more playing time if Reddick misses much time.

Fantasy Tip: Believe it or not, Reddick is two years removed from a 32-homer season. However, injuries have slowed him down the last two years, although he still does have valuable pop that might be worth taking a chance on late in deep mixed leagues. Oblique injuries are tricky, though, so keep an eye on his progress. Canha should be on your radar in AL-only formats for stolen bases if Reddick misses significant time.
