Athletics | Josh Reddick's thumb fracture near tip

Mon, 23 May 2016 17:44:59 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick's (thumb) fracture in his thumb is not in the joint, but rather closer to the tip. That equals about four weeks of recovery, which is towards the lower end of expectations.

Fantasy Tip: While it's bad timing for Reddick's injury, considering he's been out to a scorching start in 2016, he at least receives this bit of good news that should have him back before the end of June. In the meantime, Jake Smolinski is the biggest beneficiary, but owners should wait till he displays some sort of consistency before thinking of adding him.

Athletics | Josh Reddick to visit hand specialist

Fri, 20 May 2016 16:04:41 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (thumb) will be examined by a hand specialist Monday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: More details and a concrete return timeline will likely be available after the examination, so check back for updates. As it stands, Reddick is a stash-worthy outfielder in all but shallow leagues. He is expected to miss four to six weeks with the injury. Look for Oakland to mix and match Coco Crisp and Chris Coghlan into their lineup and both are deep mixed and AL-only options.

Athletics | Josh Reddick officially on DL

Fri, 20 May 2016 12:05:12 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (thumb) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 20. OF Jake Smolinski was recalled from Class AAA Nashville in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Reddick was one of Oakland's more consistent and productive hitters (.322-5-18), so this is a big blow for them. You'll be forced to stash him everywhere, but he's likely to miss four to six weeks. This injury assures that Coco Crisp will continue seeing regular starts, but his power and speed numbers are down, and he's a mediocre outfielder in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. Chris Coghlan should remain relevant in those same formats and could steal time from Crisp once Jed Lowrie returns to play second base.

Athletics | Josh Reddick fractures thumb

Fri, 20 May 2016 05:09:28 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (thumb) suffered a fractured thumb while sliding into second base Thursday, May 19, against the New York Yankees. Reddick was 2-for-3 and had a .322 batting average before getting hurt, and he will see a hand specialist on Friday, May 20. Reddick could miss as much as six weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Oakland fans and Reddick owners are taking a deep breath this morning. This could be a setback. You may want to reserve Reddick for the time being in keeper leagues and not pick him up in daily contests. Chris Coghlan and Tyler Ladendorf could see increased playing time if this injury results in a long absence.

Athletics | Josh Reddick sitting out

Sun, 15 May 2016 08:34:41 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick is not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore Sunday, May 15. OF Billy Burns will start in right field, while OF Khris Davis will start in left field. 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting fifth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Burns and Davis have been playing well recently and should be starting candidates in most leagues. Butler is hitting .200 with three RBI in May and may not be the best option for owners to consider.

Athletics | Josh Reddick's hit streak snapped

Wed, 11 May 2016 21:55:13 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick was hitless in three at-bats with a walk and a strikeout Wednesday, May 11, against the Boston Red Sox to snap a six-game hitting streak.

Athletics | Josh Reddick a trade target

Tue, 10 May 2016 10:06:20 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick is being mentioned in trade rumors because he's hot at the plate and is set to be a free agent after the season. He's being linked to the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox, according to sources. Reddick is hitting .317 and had a franchise record-tying streak of eight straight hits that ended Monday, May 9.

Fantasy Tip: Reddick has a great shot at returning to the 20-homer mark for the second straight season if he stays healthy, even though he plays his home games at pitcher-friendly Coliseum. He's a solid No. 3 fantasy outfielder, and his fantasy value would rise if he were traded to more of a hitting-friendly environment.

Orioles | Mark Trumbo falls double short of cycle

Sun, 08 May 2016 15:52:39 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Mark Trumbo went 3-for-5 against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, May 8, singling in the first inning, belting a two-run homer in the third and receiving credit for a triple in the eighth when his fly ball to right was lost in the sun by OF Josh Reddick.

Fantasy Tip: Trumbo's first season in Baltimore has been nothing short of a smashing success thus far, as he is tied with Manny Machado for the team lead in homers (nine) and paces the Orioles with 24 RBI. Owners need to hope he can avoid his annual swoon in May and June, because if he can do that, he is well on pace to crush just about every one of his previous career highs in the power categories. Barring injury, Trumbo needs to be active in every league.

Athletics | Three more hits for Josh Reddick

Sun, 08 May 2016 15:15:18 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick continued his recent assault on American League pitching Sunday, May 8, going 3-for-3 with an RBI single and a run scored against the Baltimore Orioles. Reddick finished the three-game set against Baltimore with 10 hits in 12 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Although he hasn't homered since April 24, Reddick has been locked in at the plate over his last four contests, going 12-of-17 with an RBI in each of his last three. That half-week surge alone has lifted his batting average 66 points to .319, although it speaks to the rest of the Athletics' offense that he hasn't driven in more runs over that stretch. Nevertheless, Reddick should be active in all leagues at the moment.

Athletics | Seven-hit doubleheader for Josh Reddick

Sun, 08 May 2016 00:07:29 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick had three hits in Game 1 of a doubleheader Saturday, May 7, against the Baltimore Orioles. He had four more hits in game two as the Athletics split the twin bill. Oakland won, 8-4, in the first game but lost the second game, 5-2.

Fantasy Tip: Reddick raised his batting average to .301, over 40 points higher than it was entering the day. He now has 10 hits in his past four games, and that has raised his fantasy value slightly. Reddick can be a streaky hitter, but he produces points and that is what your team needs.
