Cleveland Indians INF Cord Phelps has worked his way into the conversation for a spot on the Opening Day roster. "Regardless of whether he makes the team or not," manager Terry Francona said Wednesday, March 20, "he's played to the point where he's going to help us win games, which we're thrilled about. I know we have decisions to make coming up in a couple of weeks, but we're so happy with the way he's played."

Cleveland Indians 3B Cord Phelps is impressing the team after hitting .306 with two home runs and four RBIs in 17 spring games. The team is getting him some work at first base in camp. "Cord's had a great camp," general manager Chris Antonetti said. "Offensively, he's swung the bat as well as probably anybody in camp. And I think he's a little bit more relaxed. I don't want to speak for Cord, but he's got a great energy about him. He's tried to work all over the diamond and really embrace that opportunity."
Fantasy Tip: Phelps doesn't do anything well enough to make him stand out as a fantasy commodity. He could steal some PT from Lonnie Chisenhall at third base, but not enough to make him anything more than a bench piece in deep AL leagues.
